Remove tax exempt status from religious institutions

Remove tax exempt status from all non-government organizations, especially religious institutions. Make all organizations, including religious institutions and nonprofit organizations, pay taxes as if they were regular corporations.

I agree.
Nothing has been more harmful to the Pulpit in America than the government gun of tax breaks held to the preachers heads.
The legitimate ministers had to preach on street corners, and it only advertised our spiritual weakness, there being so few.

The reason they are tax exempt is because they perform services that would otherwise cost the government more money - marriages, officiating at other ceremonies, and charitable work to help the poor. A better idea would be to eliminate the income tax and property taxes for all Americans and implement a national sales tax or tariff model.

I would like to see organizations qualifying for non-profit status defined as have 90% or better of all funds raised/donated/collected spent directly to the purpose of the NP. That includes all salaries, advertising & other overhead. A true non-profit doesn’t have huge salaries, staff and overhead. I expect churches to also meet those guidelines.
