Snap-EBT limits

MAHA - do not allow recipients of snap and EBT to use our tax payer dollars to buy ultra processed unhealthy foods. No more Doritos, sodas, snack cakes. If the money is only allowed to be used on meats, vegetables, fruits, grains and other healthy products this would be a win-win. This would help those in the Ag sector by increasing demand for their products, plus it was improve the health of the consumers, thus lowering the likelihood of chronic metabolic diseases.

Candy is also allowed now on EBT.

I believe that you should have to take random drug test to continue to receive benefits. It is well known that a majority of receivers sell their EBT card balances for .50 on the dollar. That should become a felony.

End SNAP and EBT. Allow the states to determine their own social safety net programs.

And no EBT, SNAP, cellphones, or cash assistance for illegals.

I agree!

If they receive EBT/Snap any assistance, they should be required to do so many hours of community service to their local county/community to help pay back! They need to realize money isn’t free! So many are playing the system.

I also feel like child care reimbursement should be included in this. I know many parents cant work due to no child care. A plan in place for this would help many families.

That’s not that feasible with out giving more money due to fresh food being so expensive

However, if we support our farmers. I think it’s possible. Farms are dwindling. They are struggling big time! We need to support our people and not depend on imports. Perhaps, this would go hand in hand with a new farming bill.

Since SNAP is supplemental nutrition assistance program it should only be pantry staples with fresh fruit and vegetables Make it a commissary or on line ordering and deliver if needed.

EBT should be treated the same as WIC. Only certain amounts and brands of specific foods should be allowed. Milk, Juice, Bread, Cereal, Eggs, Peanut Butter, Baby Formula/Food and Fresh Produce. Anything extra or “special” should have to be out of the purchaser’s pocket. Its not right that someone on food stamps can eat filet and lobster while the working class (that pay the taxes) can’t afford to. Additionally, the food must have a balanced nutritional value; especially when being provided to children.

How is that fair to a person like me working 40+ hours a week and had to apply because i am raising my grandchildren on top of my own children

Or if they change the ingredients to be healthy, that would be better. Autistic children only eat certain foods, if they are on EBT, healthier snacks of these sorts would be the better option.

I agree with this. When my family was struggling we cut out candy and soda so if you really need the help these should be last on your list of needs.

Not everyone who has these benefits are abusing the system. We are one income family with five children. We cannot receive these benefits because they look at gross pay, not the amount brought home. I feel the structure of income needs to be changed. There will be people who abuse it, which is a felony when caught. DHHR is really awesome at making sure you know it’s a $10,000 fine and a felony for false information or selling benefits. But for families like mine, who pay taxes and are law abiding citizens, we could benefit from it greatly. But because my husband has so much overtime from construction, we don’t qualify. If you’ve never had to ration food amounts just to pay your power bill, you’d understand. I don’t feel as if I should have to do community service because our family needs a little extra help.

If someone is selling their money it needs reported. These people are only hurting folks like us who are grateful for any help. I stay at home with our three toddlers. Childcare is too costly for us, even if I worked. Again, our state offers help for childcare but you have to qualify and be in a specific bracket for income. They also look at gross pay, not bring home amount. Which is not helpful for most families.

If/when over time tax is eliminated this may help families like ours. But the structure of income as of right now needs updated. Gross pay should not be a factor, it should be what is actually brought home.

If you took out foods with dye or processed, you wouldn’t be left with many options. I do agree that this is definitely something to consider. I hope that as a country, we eliminate them all together. Most of what we consume, even organic, can be tainted with chemicals and pesticides. However, it should have a limitation and get people to buy healthier options.

If we have to take drug tests for work, they should take it to stay on benefits! Along with that- adjust what can be purchased with the cards to make it more healthy food instead of unhealthy snacks, sodas etc. Maybe set it up to where they can purchased foods from farmers or farmers markets.

No I disagree. This is just dictating what someone eats, how is that for the better of America? Let people eat what they want on food stamps. I do believe they should have tighter requirements to be on them so they aren’t being abused. But food is a basic need everyone needs to survive.

I am an emt on SNAP. I do not know how to cook nor do I have the time to learn or actually cook. Being able to get quick and easy food is necessary for my job.

I would love to see those who are accessing these benefits be rewarded for having a full time job instead of penalized. You should not receive more benefit because you decide to stay home. If you have a child that you are caring for because of disability, that can be taken into consideration but it has become more lucrative for them to stay home than contribute to society.

I agree to a point, us older people who rely on the help from Snap I feel should not be required to do the drug testing, mostly because we rely on the extra help buying food, granted a lot of only like $21.00 a month but every little bit helps, plus a lot of us can’t work any more, as a result we struggle getting food, pay bills everything, so every little bit helps and I am sure a lot of us older people don’t sell our Snaps

It’s good you mentioned this, meals on wheel provides food to people who can’t go shopping or are home bond, the meals that are provided are suitable but could be better and healthier, now the only problem with that is, what can people eat or not eat the will keep them for getting sick is another thing, I don’t know if meals on wheels is state run Federal run or privately run.
