.Food stamps should be regulated to only be allowed to be used on real food; not snacks or high sugary items( soda, chips candy ). It should be allowed to buy hot foods ( example rotisserie chickens) . If it shows no health benefit it shouldn’t be allowed. A healthy population is a better one.
100% and eliminate higher end foods i.e. steaks and seafood. Food assistance should be a bridge not a lifestyle. Nine states allow some EBT recipients to purchase fast food Mc Donald’s , Wendy’s etc
Agreed Joshua, check out my proposal.
I would like to see ID required to use EBT cards. It is VERY COMMON for EBT balances to be sold $0.50 on the $1.00. Requiring an ID be shown would be a hindrance. I would like to see the purchase of baby supplies - diapers, wipes, etc to be allowed with EBT cards. This could also cut down on the misuse of trading balances for cash.
Do you understand that these “snacks” are more readily affordable than fresh foods? If one qualifies for SNAP, it’s no one’s business what type of food one purchases. If you are being paid for work by your employer, maybe employers should delegate what type of food YOU’RE allowed to purchase.
Federal Snap benefits should be canceled immediately. It is an unconstitutional over reach. The 10th amendment and article 4 give specific direction on what the role of the federal government is. Snap should be redirected back to the state legislatures to figure out
Food stamps/snap shouldn’t exist in its present form. People who are not capable of supporting themselves shouldn’t get credit cards to buy whatever they please. When I was a kid, my grandfather lived in Florida and, because of his age, was given dried beans, dried milk, dried rice, and cheese once every so often. That’s how things should be now, in my opinion. If people aren’t happy with that, they can work and buy what they want.
I don’t disagree with what you’re saying. But in the spirit of where the responsibility resides, it’s at the state level.
100% agree…i work at a big box store…and the abuse of ebt is ridiculous…using it to buy lobster, rib eye, NY Steaks, shrimp…needs to stop…hamburger should be left on…i agree…no sugary snacks, i.e. sodas…candy…all is unnecessary…ive seen ebt cards for a family of 4 have over 3k food/ 1500 cash…an overhaul/ audit needs to happen…everyone on food stamps eats better than we do…and have Iphones…designer bags…etc…the "general merchandise " option should be taken out as an option to pay…that way liquor, cigarettes any non necessary items will be banned…must scan bar code…no more tax-payer dollars going to non-essential items
I would like to see food stamps reformed so it includes working single mother’s and father’s. I am tired of seing children go hungry because their parents can not afford food. If they qualify for housing, they should automatically qualify for at least 200 a month for food. Single parent’s that do not get child support from the other parent should be able to qualify for some kind of assistance with food.
Your comment regarding snack prices vs fresh might hold some truth. But your argument comparing working a job vs your neighbors paying your grocery bill(via their taxes) needs a second look.
No, my Social Security contributions are paying for my life. I would commit suicide to unburden people like you, but it’s a mortal sin.
What a shocking thing to say, suicide is not the answer! You attempting to shame or guilt someone else (a complete stranger) for that, means something really horrible has gotten ahold of your mentality. I will pray to God he helps turn things around for you. There is peace in truth.
You did compare two completely uncomparable things, simply pointed that out. Again, for that statement to solicit your response …I’ll pray.
Ps…if u you took Your to mean literally You…you misread. It was a generalized statement. Take care.
We the people pay taxes towards the program, so it is only fair that we have a say in how it is managed. Food Stamps should prioritize essential items like beans, rice, milk, and whole grain cereals, rather than allowing for the purchase of luxuries like steak, soda, and candy. I have proposed a bill to reform SNAP benefits to better reflect the structure of WIC programs, which focus on providing nutritious foods to families in need. It is important for public assistance programs to promote healthy choices and ensure that taxpayer dollars are being used responsibly. By aligning SNAP benefits with WIC guidelines, we can better support the well-being of those who rely on these vital resources.
Better supply them with more money, then, cuz it isn’t cheap. Plus, no, you don’t have a say in what others eat. That is exactly the dictatorship regime that we just got rid of November 5th.
You wanna talk about shame? Those like me are always shamed like we’re leaches. I get sick of the high-horse mentality of those who have money & opportunity who have never reached rock bottom. It’s people who are not in this situation that want to dictate rice & beans…like we’re lowlife scum who are never allowed to eat a steak or hamburger. Rice & beans…gotcha.
Liquor & cigarettes are already banned.
#1 I never mentioned rice n beans
#2 I never shamed you or anyone else, you in fact attempted to shame me.
#3 I’ve hit some rather low points, but always kept a job. And no, I wasn’t raised with a lot of money or had more opportunity than anyone else I knew. I did take advantage of the opportunities I did have, like getting good grades, got some scholarships etc…worked for it.
#4 I was raised by a mom who qualified for food stamps for a period of time, but refused them(so I guess that makes me look at things a bit differently) she worked her ass off.
#5 You mention SS for yourself vs SNAP for others. I could be wrong but I believe programs like that(SNAP)are meant to be a bridge…for people who have fallen on hard times, needed a little help getting back up. It’s not meant to be, and shouldn’t be life support for extended periods…if you are able bodied etc.
#6 I honestly don’t have the ability to fight this argument because I believe we’re coming from two completely different thought processes.
#7 I believe that people having a kernel of faith in themselves, in God and the people around them can move mountains. So in the end, steak and snacks vs rice n beans doesn’t mean much. The end result, is what matters. If you think people on SNAP receiving steak and snacks propels(encourages) them to want more for themselves, so be it. That’s your vote. But I wouldn’t expect that your fellow taxpayers will share your views.
This program should be a bridge to get back on your feet when one loses a job or income not a way of life.
Yes hello I think the issue is just like in the election the people don’t have faith in the system. This system is meant to help people while they get back on their feet while in hard times . The problem is people stay on it and abuse the system.
The #1 problem with this system is the same as the health industry . No one can define what food is in the sense of What’s is healthy and unhealthy . While I can say hey McDonald isn’t healthily food because it has little nutritional value. Doesn’t mean it not food to the homeless man who’s hungry.
The state needs to regulate what is food. I think most people would be able to see box of cookies and be like hey that isn’t necessary for a balanced meal or should be included .
I believe , it should be stuff you would only give to growing child , wouldn’t be soda and snacks.
The issue of saying you need to mind what people buy; is not an agreement.
While I agree it’s a hard issue and it needs to be address. It’s a issue of emotion for a lot of people when they see a family of 7 and have three baskets full and it’s soda , cookies, and chips and they are barley able to afford the food buy.
The issue with this system is it’s like a deep cut on a foot while we are just putting bandaids over it . The foot need to be with repairs and addresses or completely removed.
This is all just opinions and I don’t mean any disrespect or harm remember we just throwing spaghetti to the wall and hoping it sticks and they see it.
