Safe staffing ratios for nurses

Nurse to patient ratios need to be standardized and enforced, for the safty of both the patient AND the nurses! High nurse to patient ratios increase the risk of medical error, patient falls and burnout. Most often the units keep staffing as low as possible to stay under budget, they must do this or they risk losing their jobs, all so the CEO can get a fat bonus. Nurses can not give adequate care to patients when they are overloaded, they simply dont have the time. Nurses are leaving the bedside in massive numbers, and this is one of the main reasons for that.

Sadly, we need to have enough qualified and interested Nurses to do this and at the moment many areas do not.

Hello:

Staffing ratios, abysmal working conditions, burnout, boomers retiring from the profession, etc. All tipping point as to why shortages never end. So, working with leaders throughout the healthcare organizations to find better working conditions, and thus installing staffing ratios, could attract more people to want to become nurses - as stated in this article.

Reminds me of teachers. People love the position, though the administration problems, hours, pay scale, and recently the repudiation that some youth are showcasing to educators - has endeavored a step to bring more to switch paths in jobs than remain as an educator.
