Mandated safe staffing ratios for nurses

Hospitals should be required to have a safe nurse to patient ratio. Currently nurses are expected to take upwards of 9-10 patients at a time and care for them all properly. In patients with high acuity that can be extremely dangerous. During the day nurses should only have a max patient load of 4 and 5 at night. There is a nursing shortage because nurses are overworked, underpaid, and stressed from work loads. I can’t properly care for patients if I have more than what is safe. Nurses are going to continue the field because of unsafe ratios and not enough pay. Having a mandated ratio will help keep nurses and patients safe.
