As they can own stocks, and are frequent tax shelters for the wealthy, non-profits should go through rigorous reporting standards in order to operate. They also should be mandated to demonstrate successful missions and results. Most recent numbers show that there are currently about 1.8 million active non-profits located in the United States, and is the third largest sector in the country. And yet a majority of the social issues that these are supposed to be addressing still remain prevalent in our society. How can both non-profits and Federal/State funded initiatives throw so much money at a problem, and yet it is a frequent political talking point? No non-profits should be able to own stocks and should be able to provide demonstrative results in order to continue operations.
I think you could edit this to include ENDING PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS The government should not use tax payer money to fund NGO’s (non-profit) organizations.
No non-profit “charitable” dollars used for political candidates or policy funding to influence congress, any vote or election outcome. Reid Hoffman used his charitable contributions (“I don’t know how all the money is used.” -Hoffman)…to eviscerate political candidates. I believe Emerson Collective (Laurene Powell Jobs) does it too! I’m sure others. Maybe this is why the billionaires are “donating” all their wealth, so their darkness can hide behind tax free entities to carry out elections of puppets and agendas for now and always?
I have a charity but use it for bonafide causes. Happy to be a task force member.
