Revert all health care to non-profits

Remove the corporate structure of health care. Return to the days of the charity organizations that ran healthcare as a ministry out of their nonprofit. The Catholics, the Methodist, the Baptist and many others ran hospitals and healthcare as an outgrowth of their charity organizations. During that time things were cost-effective for the users of the services. Now things are run through a profit organization and those organizations are making massive incomes by enslaving many individuals and causing massive debt trying to resolve a health issue. Our health crisis is the number one contributor to the financial ruin of individuals.

I remember well when my Blue Cross/Blue Shield changed from a non-profit/service provider and became a for-profit company. I coincided with our local non-profit hospital being absorbed into a for-profit business.

The first indication of this not being good for us was that the “premium holidays”, the months in the following year where we didn’t have a premium due to over payment the previous year vanished, never to return because now the overpayment was profit.

Second, the hospital did what all companies do to increase profit, they cut jobs, nurses, CNAs, lab techs, and the actual care of patients was degraded due to minimal staffing.

This was explained to us, that the competition would keep costs down but that only works if regulation allows a person access to competitors and in areas where there are multiple hospitals.

I would love to see healthcare and hospitals declassified from profit back to non-profit service organizations where we would get more bang for our buck and keep more of bucks in our pocket.
