Retired Veterans & Law Enforcement In Service

We have a lot of great veterans & law enforcement that have retired from their active duties. We need greater protection and security for our Public Schools.

We should use their skills and expertise to help monitor our schools and protect our children.

Every school needs to have these individuals patrol the halls be in classrooms or take watch in common areas such as lunch recess & in pick up / drop off for students.

They should be allowed to carry concealed & have to pass thorough background checks and attend a training program within the school district taught by the local law enforcement agency or whatever program they deem is necessary.

It is a voluntary service!

Guns are not the issue it’s the heart of the people that has become the root of evil and taking guns away from citizens that abide by the law is not going to fix our problem!

This was my policy proposal, you beat me to it! Makes complete sense to me and is utilizing a skill set that is priceless in our veterans in need!

I like parts of this. Heck, I’m for Open Carry Everywhere!
But, after having worked with many veterans, you can’t automatically say, “Veteran = Good Guy” . Uh, sorry no. A certified School Resource Officer goes through 40 hours of training in addition to regular LE training. Trained, checked, and certified… yes. But Vet = Good Guy isn’t automatic!

I do agree with the veterans thing I do believe in a very thorough background check needs to be done and yes they will need to complete whatever training deemed necessary! I have military law enforcement veterans firefighters and teachers in my immediate family so I understand completely! Thanks for your input!

Thank you!

This was my proposed thought too! They have the high end training to do so. Yes, I agree completing a training course to redirect their meaning would be good and I agree they need to pass a physical and mental review to ensure health but great use for them and gives them purpose. The schools need protection, they need the work and the police can stay on the roads enforcing where they are needed the most.
