Redistribute all China owned farms to state or in-state Farmers

Remove all China owned farms to the state the farms are in or redistribute those farms amongst the in-state farmers. It’s absurd to think one of our biggest threats can source our food. It takes away farmers jobs, risks security, and doesn’t benefit Americans.

1.	National Security Concerns: Foreign ownership of U.S. farmland, especially by a nation like China with which the U.S. has complex relations, poses potential risks to national security. Farmland ownership can provide a foreign entity with proximity to critical infrastructure or military installations, potentially allowing for espionage or intelligence gathering. In recent years, U.S. officials have voiced concerns about the strategic implications of foreign entities, particularly those with close ties to their governments, owning land near sensitive sites.
2.	Food Security and Economic Sovereignty: U.S. farmland is a valuable resource that supports the nation’s food supply and agricultural economy. Allowing foreign ownership, especially by a major global competitor, risks giving another nation leverage over this critical sector. For instance, during times of geopolitical tension, foreign owners might influence food supply chains, prices, or even withhold access to produce, which could impact the U.S. food market and economy.
3.	Economic Impact on American Farmers: When foreign entities purchase U.S. farmland, it can drive up land prices, making it harder for American farmers to acquire or expand farmland affordably. This can lead to reduced opportunities for U.S.-based farmers, particularly smaller, family-owned farms, limiting their competitiveness in the agricultural sector and potentially leading to more consolidation in the industry.
4.	Environmental and Resource Management: Control of farmland often includes access to critical resources like water. If foreign owners mismanage these resources for short-term gain, it could lead to depletion or environmental damage that affects local communities and the U.S. in the long term. There is a risk that foreign entities might prioritize their own economic interests over sustainable farming practices, impacting the broader environment and future agricultural productivity.
5.	Potential Political Influence: Ownership of large amounts of U.S. farmland by foreign entities may eventually provide them with undue influence in local or state politics. For example, they could potentially lobby against regulations that are critical for sustainable practices or national interests, seeking policies that benefit their investment over the welfare of local communities and the nation.

While there are proponents of open markets and the benefits of foreign investment, these concerns underscore the importance of protecting vital national resources, like farmland, from foreign ownership—especially by entities with complex or adversarial relations with the U.S.

No foreign country or foreign citizen should own one ounce of American soil, as they have no alliance to the United States.
Only American CITIZENS should own American soil.
Stop selling our FARM LAND to China and other countries that hate us. (It makes no sense)

You also have Americans such as Microsoft’s Bill Gates buying up a lot of land. What is he doing? He’s not a farmer. If the elite control the food chain they can control us, the working poor/slaves.

Make it make sense, no foreign entity should own American soil. That is a threat to our safety.

Fantastic! Have to stop this foreign interference somehow! Does China allow a US citizen or US entity to buy land over there?

I believe there should also be a heavy land tax that would involve any foreign owned land for farming or housing or whatever can be.

This is an AMAZING!!! idea. No foreign country should have ownership of any form of American land!!! It should be taken from them as given back to our nation.

I agree with you here in spirit, but I don’t think it’d be prudent to ban foreigners from owning American land, because we want to be a welcoming place of business for the whole world (that benefits all of us). But there definitely should be restrictions on type of land and/or what you are using it for. As in the case of the Chinese gov’t buying farmland and growing crops on it…that’s unacceptable!

No. No one is allowed to travel freely there, never mind buy farmland.

Please thumbs up the existing posts instead of bogging the thread down with agreements. The above proposal seems like common sense, however; as a Policy site, we should be preparing ourselves for any potential objections.
I don’t want this site to become another reddit or Quora.

Land is a finite national resource and as such, as Henry George argued, must be treated differently from other kinds of assets. I would be 100% for ending foreign investors from owning any land, even residential. Quite often disparities in global wealth can create apartment shortages in urban centers.

Please take this one step further and dissolve the BLM and any BLM holding of property! Ban the federal government from holding land beyond current national parks and the district of Columbia. Also redistribute the 254 million acres currently help by the BLM back to the American people!

A lot of this farm land China has purchased is surrounding our military bases. Look up Trump and Dr Phil discussing it.

These lands should be reasonably leased to American farmers. 50% organic. Lift unreasonable restrictions on the farmers to keep it profitable. Keep it simple for Americans, 75% of what is produced is to be sold on the American market and the rest to be given to American food banks for the poor and needy to cut down on welfare and food stamps.

We are not allowed to buy property in other countries especially China. Why should they be allowed? Not only that but they are doing it for nefarious reasons and are by our military installations. It’s not a coincidence that that’s where this land is. It’s by design to spy and who knows what else they are planning. Ban forieners and entities from buying land in America

I agree with you. There should be restrictions. If an individual or company wants to come here legally, they should be free to live and/or work here. Just not buy gigantic swaths of land surrounding nuclear facilities and military bases like the Chinese government has done. That’s a big national security threat.
