I propose that we use transitioning service members to guard our schools. People who are getting out of the military sometimes have a difficult time transitioning from service to civilian. Instead of pulling from the police force and spreading our police officers thin, we can station these members in schools, armed, to protect against more school shootings. I don’t know whether it would be better to have this be a government position or not, but it would create jobs. Not only would this better protect our children, but it could also protect our heroes who need assistance transitioning from one to another.
You could add this as a way for military members to be stationed during their last year and make enlistments longer. It would be a bonus if the protectors could choose what state, at least, they would like to be stationed in.
I believe that two or three armed people per school (depending on size) would be sufficient.
This would eliminate response times, and the protectors would know the exact locations of the perpetrators.
American mothers shouldn’t be scared to send their kids to school.
If you like this please vote for it to the left of the name of the policy! (we are all learning how to use this wonderful platform) Thank you!
How about we have classes in all schools that helps kids emotionally. Making friends by team building exercises. Some students are just mentally unstable and these kids need to go to a psychologist. We need to identify these students when they are young so they can be helped sooner. That will lessen school shootings. We also could have parents involved more.
Maybe in the evenings have parenting classes. We have generations of adults that were not raised in good homes. There are wonderful parents that teach their children well but, a lot of parents are just struggling. If schools involve parents in a positive way we can have better schools and parents and teachers would create well rounded future adults.
I have a proposal like this except I think x amount of teachers per school should get training and have their concealed. I like this idea however having military or police or any type of body guard would make me un-easy at school as a kid. Whereas if you have “secret teachers” who carry nobody would know. We are not here to helicopter our kids but instead protect them and teach them how to be adults and civil humans. If you place police/military it starts looking more like a jail than it already looks like which actually could make kids start rebelling more.
I absolutely love this idea. It gives our veterans job opportunities. Our schools all have police where I am and our children love and trust them. It’s given them a wonderful opportunity to build a positive relationship with law enforcement. Of course, I believe anyone working with children should have an extensive background check and mental evaluation. What some of our soldiers had to see and do may affect their ability to work in this situation.
The only issue I see with using Service members who are currently serving would be the Posse Comitatus Act, preventing the military from taking up civilian police responsibilities. I think there would need to be a dedicated SRO who then has the security officers under his command, this would allow a certified LEO to handle the legal issue that come up, but not weaken the security element.
I wrote up a proposal on what I believe to be a solid plan to deter School shooters, any feedback would be great!
