Congress people earn a salary directly proportional to the average salary of the jurisdication of which they represent.
Ex: CA senator makes say $100k due to that is CA mean salary while KS senator makes $40k due to that being KS mean salary.
For Reps same concept applies but due to their congressional district.
Incentivises helping put policies in place to help benefit ones district. Also does give reps a higher than thou attitude of their constituents average a $50k salary while making $174,000 (legal) salary.
I like the direction of this idea. Perhaps some discussion is needed regarding unintended incentives, such as high-income areas attracting more competition for political office, or politicians placing too much emphasis on the earning power of their districts and neglecting more wholesome aspects of government, but I like the level playing field character of this idea.
I’ve always said our representative’s salaries should be tied to median or average wages of their governed. For the same reasons I am in support of abolishing all taxes and having only a flat rate goods and service tax that cannot be adjusted without 2/3 approval in the house and the Senate under the condition that wages have outpaced inflation by 0.5% under the current administration and a reduction in the federal deficit. This would prevent administrations that are already navigating our federal financial situation poorly from being able to change the rate to cover their poor performance.
