The post office hires people without an interview. They send you through an “Academy” that does not provide you any training. When you go to the post office your assigned to, you still don’t get any training. They don’t even tell you how you’re supposed to get paid. When you ask for training, you’re told to “figure it out or go back where you came from” Every new hire is supposed to get 2 days on each route for training but they don’t. They falsify their records, showing that the new carrier is still in training (they are still paid like they are in training) yet they are thrown to the wolves.
They also allow Amazon to dictate how and when they deliver their packages. The GPS has them going from one side of town and back or from one town to another. This is incredibly expensive in fuel and vehicle maintenance.
Rural carriers are expected to furnish their own vehicles but they are only reimbursed mileage. They are also only reimbursed the predetermined miles on that route, they are not paid for going back and forth all over to deliver.
The Post Office is full of people that don’t care about their job, they don’t care if the people coming into the post office get training and they don’t care if they stay but then complain because they have to work all the time and can’t get time off.
Every post office needs a trainer and their sole job is to train or retrain employees if needed. They should know every route and they should know the job inside and out. They should be able to deliver the mail, assist with union needs, payroll and benefits. There is no one at the local level or at the “Academy” that will assist with these things.
