So the weapons defense contracting business as I understand it is a revolving door with the Pentagon and or government office. This has incentivized a monopoly and lead to government overspending on the same technology. For instance the stinger missile was about 25,000$ in 1992 the government now pays 480,000$ for the same rocket.
Now I don’t know exactly what the inflation of 25,000$ form 1992 to 2024 but the inflation calculator I looked up said it should be about 56,000$ by today’s standards. If we were over paying say 75 to 100,000$ I can understand that people have to make money however 480,000 for the same rocket that was purchased in 1992? That seems a bit outrageous from an outside perspective especially when it’s my tax dollars being spent.
I would love to give these companies more money for newer more accurate outstanding technology but only if they save us money for a system or weapon that we’ve been buying for over 30 years. Seem fair? I don’t have any ideas on what would incentivise innovation and save money but Elon musk sure seems to know how to make it happen lol. In all seriousness please consider maybe justifying why we are spending so much for the same technology and maybe award companyies with tax insetves or grants for saving us money or developing new technology that’s more efficient.
