Currently hospice is overmedicating our most vulnerable people - the elderly, nonterminal and disabled. Hospice was created in 1967 to administer care to the ACTIVELY DYING and to MINIMIZE PAIN for the actively dying. Today, people who could live with medication or procedures for years are being targeted to enroll and are being drugged to death prematurely causing death by drugs, starvation and dehydration. There is no knowledge or consent provided by the patient or family. Patients are given a one size fits all medication even when there is no pain of anxiety. Some nurses joke about giving a HAM sandwich if the patient doesn’t do what they want: Haldol, Ativan, Morphine. Families are tricked into hospice as a free service that will provide a shower and assistance. It is taking advantage of people and euthanizing them so that the government can save money by eliminating instead of caring for and hospice companies are literally making a killing off of killing people who could live longer. It is premeditated murder, and we should be better at providing care to people. What happened to “do no harm”? Our people should be treated with respect and dignity and die when it is their time, not for the convenience of society. There is a FB group Murdered by hospice that has 5000 people that can testify to the cruel murder of their loved ones. Even when an investigation occurs at a hospice facility, it is about Medicare fraud and not about killing unsuspecting victims. Please HELP!
I have witnessed two of my loved ones murdered by hospice.
My brother was murdered by Hospice on September 18th of this year and my mom was murdered on December 5th.
They dehydrated and starved my dear Mother also took away life sustaining oxygen and no nurse call button along with their deadly cocktail of sedating and killing drugs.
I was involved in several high profile cases of vulnerable patients murdered by deliberate dehydration and starvation: Hugh Finn and Terri Schivao. That this is allowed to continue is a massive evil. At present the hospice policies seem to be governed more by cost savings than concern for patients. That needs to stop. No more withdrawal of ordinary care or overmedicating vulnerable patients!
Marsha, I also made a proposal to reform how hospices are paid by medicare to deter unethical practices (i.e.- euthanasia)
My father was murdered by hospice in September 2019. They gave him Ativan and Haldol without my consent.
My mother was murdered by Hospice in 2019 and I now understand what doctors and nurses mean when they talk about “comfort care.”
I have witnessed my aunt, cousin, and several others killed with drugs while they were not terminal. I also worked as a social worker in two separate hospice companies and witnessed unethical practices. Reimbursement was prioritized over integrity.
Have you brought awareness of this to others and if so what has become of it ?
I lost my father under the guise of “respite care” by a hospice facility. We were given the impression that this care would be done in the same manner as my mother had been caring for him. My mother was exhausted & needed a break from caretaking to recharge her batteries. Once hospice got my father in their respite care facility, they completely ditched all of his daily medications for blood pressure, enlarged prostate, & Alzheimer’s & started pumping him full of opiates, antipsychotics, & benzodiazepines - all meds that he had never taken before. They only fed him 1 full meal in a 5-day period & no hydration at all. He died within that week of respite care due to their euthanasia protocol. These murderous institutions need to be help accountable & be forced to change their culture of euthanasia.
I am so sorry for you losses Under the guise of compassionate care.
I am so deeply sorry. It is unconscionable what is being done to people and nothing done to stop them.
Absolutely they need to be held accountable. I’m so sorry about Dad, he deserved to be treated not eliminated. Hospice respite care is a way to get the patient away from the watchful eye of the family and that’s what happened to your Dad and my Mother. It’s Wrong.
Yes, numerous times but they do not investigate.
Agree, needs to be overhauled
I’m so sorry for the hurt and pain you experienced while your loved one was on hospice services. Based on reading your post it seems that you are talking about hospice/ nursing facilities, is that correct? If so I agree that nursing home care needs to be overhauled. I have a loved one on hospice services right now. They are on home hospice and it has been the best experience for them and myself. We have an aid that comes 5 days a week to make sure they are clean, groomed, clean clothes, sheets, etc. as my loved one is bed ridden. We also have a nurse that comes 3 days a week to check vitals, med refills, or anything else we need. We also have a chaplain that comes every two weeks or more if requested. Hospice provides everything we need to care for our loved one, no questions asked: hospital bed, trapeze, briefs (adult diapers), gloves, soaps, even hand sanitizer.
When my loved one was in a facility. They were barely cleaned (maybe once a week) constantly soaked in urine, in pain all the time. Because they were not giving them enough meds, and stuck in a room with 3 other room mates. Ignored by nursing staff, had multiple falls, the list goes on. We tried 4 different facilities. Now none of these were hospice facilities. They were nursing homes. But since bringing them home their care has been much better. He is cleaned, fed, not in pain, comfortable, gets to spend his final days around family. When he came home he CHOSE to go on hospice. He CHOSE to stop all life prolonging medications. As he does not want to be forced to live bed ridden and in pain. And helping him through the process has honestly been an amazing experience because of our hospice team. I would not be able to give him the care he needs at home without them. We are not sure how long he has with us, it could be weeks, maybe months. Either way we are thankful that to have him with us which wouldn’t be possible if not for hospice.
Doesn’t make sense bc they’re on hospice bc they are already dying.
Uumm they are DYING! We have no idea how painful this experience is! Nurses keep hospice patients COMFORTABLE! Eplain how they murder hospice patients though? Im an RN and have been in the nursing home field for over 20yrs and they absolutely need ativan and morphine to stay comfortable! Now there are those few that don’t need anything or very little but the MAJORITY NEED BOTH TO DIE COMFORTABLY AND WITH DIGNITY!
Hospitals are medically murdering non-terminal patients every day! Under Obama care hospitals are being fined for too many admissions and it’s easier to kill patients than to have them return, even if they’re coming back due to the hospital’s negligent care.
HIPAA laws protect the medical community NOT the patient. That’s how doctors can break our laws regarding medical care and ignore our legal documents that are supposed to protect us and allow us to make our own decisions about our care.
My husband was dehydrated, starved and drugged to death even though he was not terminally ill and was still working full time! He went to the hospital four times in less than a year because of the negligence of the hospital…
They pretended they were treating him and falsified the narrative in his medical records to depict him as a senile bedridden old man that had so many things wrong with him that his death would be expected.
He was denied his legal right to informed consent and his right to make decisions about his own care.
People need to educate themselves! We grew up in an era where no one questioned a doctor about anything. Those days are long gone!
Many people don’t want to believe that this is going on and many don’t believe our stories until it happens to them or their loved one!
