It is a Constitutional mandate to balance the budget, yet it hasn’t been done in 30 years and NOBODY is EVER held accountable. Meanwhile, the American people who balance their budgets get fleeced, gridlock ensues, and our money gets spent to a ton of causes we not only don’t want, but much of the time completely despise. We have rolled on CRs for 3 decades!
My suggestion is:
If Congress doesn’t balance the budget at any point in time during their tenure, NONE shall be eligible to run in their next election (meaning all 535). If they don’t balance, they ALL fail. If they don’t balance, they would all need to take a time out for 10 years; similar to people who file BK have it on their credit for 10yrs, Congress too shall be reprimanded for 10yrs because they have failed at money management. Let’s turn the tables and impose regulations on Congress just like they have done to We The People. We are allowing them to bankrupt us!
Doing this would give both houses a much needed lesson in “community”. Instead of them focusing on what’s wrong with OUR communities and selling us on their so-called solutions which are misguided attempts to legislate our culture (I digress), let’s force them to work together on THEIR community on Capitol Hill.
If we forced the balancing of the budget, we probably wouldn’t even need term limits. The system will naturally purge itself of harmful, disease-ridden swamp creatures.
