Military Veterans for School Safety Act

The Military Veterans for School Safety Act proposes using trained military veterans as security personnel in schools to enhance safety, particularly against threats like active shooters. Key provisions include:

  • Purpose: To improve school safety by employing veterans as School Safety Officers.
  • Deployment: Veterans will be assigned to schools to focus on security.
  • Training: Veterans will receive specialized training in school safety, active shooter response, and conflict resolution.
  • Funding: Federal and state grants will support hiring and training costs.
  • Eligibility: Veterans must have at least four years of service and a clean criminal record.
  • Oversight: A government body will monitor program effectiveness and compliance.
  • Pilot Program: A pilot will test the program in select districts.

The bill aims to leverage veterans’ skills to create safer school environments and protect students and staff.

Excellent

I completely agree with this except for the eligibility part. There are a lot of veterans that didnt serve their 4 years for one reason or another but still had an honerable discharge. No reason to not include them. Also it would be hard to find a veteran with a clean criminal record. I would say no violent offenses instead of a clean criminal record. Everyone makes mistakes. I mean its hard to find anyone without some sort of criminal record.
