Merge Proposals For Food Dye/Fragrance ban and Updated Ingredients List

I propose that the following # policy proposals, about the management of ingredients used in our food, health/cosmetic products/utensils, and the listing of ingredients, get merged:

1

Written by @Ban Artificial Food Dyes (Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Red 40)

2

Written by @Ban Hiding Ingredients from Consumers

3

Written by @US Regulation and Definition of 'Fragrances' in Products

4

5

@Ban fragrance, PFAS and toxic ingredients in Clothes, cookware, utensils and containers

Explanation & Justification

#1: Artificial food dyes, particularly Yellow 5, Yellow 6, and Red 40, are used widely in processed foods, candies, snacks, and beverages to enhance visual appeal. However, there are several reasons why these dyes have already been banned or heavily restricted in other countries and why they should be banned in the U.S. as well. Banning these dyes would protect public health, especially children, and safer alternatives are readily available.

#2: Companies are not listing all ingredients in their products and are hiding ingredients in natural flavoring. This is a huge issue for people with allergies. No more hiding ingredients!

#3: The FDA only requires that companies label their products with ‘fragrance’ or ‘fragrances’ when in reference to the ingredients that provide any given product with a scent. Legislation should require that all products sold into US Markets be made with natural fragrances, and all products to have an extensive/transparent list of ingredients. Any sort of synthetic product should have to adhere to the same testing standards as pharmaceutical drugs.

#4: This includes GMO regulation.

#5: We need to have products that are made with quality and safe materials. No more toxic coatings or materials that can leech into our food or water… If it is shown that many people have experienced side effects from using such products, let’s move forward and make a national class action lawsuit from the companies who had such ingredients in their products and to pay the American people back for their medical complications.

We should collaborate and try to write up a detailed contribution that is inclusive of these similar issues; a contribution that offers solutions and proper policy formatting.
