Make Women Eligible for the Draft

I thought this was already a thing??

I am a Vietnam Era Vet, female. I donā€™t like a draft, but we need to build up our military strength. I have a couple of ideas. First, English speakers from foreign allied countries could have local recruiters in their countries to hire foreign nationals for American military service. For safety reasons they would need to pass an English test and a physical exam.

As a veteran, I was shocked to see mothers handing their babies to relatives because they were being shipped out. During the Gulf War. Mothers and fathers should not be separated from their children, so they should only be stationed in non-combat areas of service.

Non-active duty service men and women should be held in reserve, not deployed to combat as a regular course of their service. Reserves should be held in reserve.

I donā€™t believe in the draft for anyone. If peace is the ultimate goal, a draft shouldnā€™t be needed.

Hi Patty, The last draft in the U.S. was in 1972, at the end of the Vietnam War. That hasnā€™t worked out so well for keeping us out of military conflicts for the past 52 years. It is important that we have a strong military as a bargaining chip with other countries. So I support a strong military, but not a new draft. We need to make military service more attractive for men and women through better incentives and better rules such as extended leave for new parents and stiff penalties for dishonorable conduct such as sexual assault. I think that the age qualifications should be eliminated as long as the candidate can pass a physical exam. Obviously, we donā€™t want candidates with diseases that might hinder their service, but there are a lot of 45 year old, very healthy men and women who might want to serve.

Just my thoughts.

There has been no draft in the U.S. since 1972, the end of the Vietnam War. 52 years with no draft. I agree, but we have to find ways to incentivize military service to keep our country strong.

I agree that we need better incentives for our military including salary. We also need to be sure they are taken care of when they get out of the service. Too many are not getting the proper care in a timely fastion.

I agree with this but feel that there would need to be a stated percentage cap on the number of women allowed to be drafted in wartime to keep our population protected with a healthy number of childbearing age women. I also think there should be an exemption for mothers AND fathers that are the primary caretakers of a minor.

Love the age comment!

I agree 100%

I disagree here. There is a reason women were kept out of the draftā€¦Plus where will peopleā€™s children go if one parent is not able to be home with them during way because both parents are drafted? Think about where that would leave families during war time. Iā€™m a no here.

traditionnally, the idea was that a womans service to the nation is having children, and a mans service to the nation is fighting in the army.

so, mothers donā€™t get drafted.

If a woman decides she wants to serve in The Military I am all in, but definitely against mandatory drafts, especially for women, Women are not Men.

I am against wars that we have no business in, for instance Joe Bidenā€™s love affair with Zelensky and Ukraine! No wonder we are Trillions in debt!
We do not belong in wars in the Midde East either. How would you like to know that your precious children may never come home after fighting against savages in the Middle East.
My entire Family of MEN have fought in every war since the Revolutionary War.

people in the middle east: ā€œimagine your precious sons and daughters not coming home after fighting the savages coming from the USAā€ā€¦

Outside of the constitution and bill of rights.

Why not simply remove all mention of gender where it isnā€™t specifically pertinent to the legislation, law, policy, rule.

Exclude Title XI as it was intended to protect womenā€™s access to sports and other programs previously unavailable to them.

Yes! Iā€™d prefer that the ladies not be in forward combat positions because physically they arenā€™t built like us men (maybe 0.01% are) and they have other biological needs like their periods which you canā€™t be cramping in an entrenched position between firefights, and also it messes up group dynamics (us men are programmed to shield a lady at all costs, which doesnā€™t really work in combat when weā€™re supposed to be working in a strict command hierarchy)ā€¦

BUT! There are many positions in the military that are NOT forward deployed. The ladies have been helping our military readiness since the Revolutionary War, whether itā€™s in resource production, factories, bookkeeping, intelligence work, logistics, maintenance.

And if the ladies can vote for war or for a draftā€¦ WELLā€¦ THEN THEY SHOULD BE DRAFTED TOO!

Maybe that would make some of these female war hawks think TWICE before getting us into conflicts. We should use DIPLOMACY. No more wars, no more forever wars. Defend the homefront (like our BORDERS), thatā€™s IT!! Fight only when absolutely necessaryā€¦ and fight like Hellā€¦ EVERYONE fights at that point.
