Increase Asset/Saving Limit For SSI & Disabled People

We should increase asset and savings for disabled people who are subjected to a limit that has not been changed since 1989.

The current limit is $2,000 for Single and $3,000 for Married but if you go over even just $1 you are penalized for overpayment or stopping of benefits for those who truly need it.

Disabled American Citizens should not be penalized for wanting to be able to save for emergencies or medical expenses for a limit that was made over 35 years ago.

The SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act, a bipartisan bill introduced in September 2023, proposes to increase the asset limits to $10,000 for individuals and $20,000 for couples. The bill would also index the limits to inflation to prevent the same problem from happening in the future.

There has been no movement on this bill for our fellow Disabled Americans who are struck heavy by inflation and cannot have a savings to get them through.

Yes! This is very much needed for SSI recipients.

I would also add that the rules for counting vehicles as assets should be updated to allow for two vehicles per family regardless of the asset limits. Currently only one vehicle is excluded for asset limits. This especially affects parents with disabled children on SSI who need to be able to own two vehicles. If one parent works and uses the main vehicle for transportation to get to work, the other parent must be able to also have a vehicle for transporting the disabled child to school, doctor appointments and therapy, and/or transportation to their own job. Currently you are only allowed one vehicle and a second vehicles value is counted towards your asset limit.

Yes!! I was in disability. My husband left me and I was only getting 900 a month . I had rent, car payment, all utility bills. I had to get a full time job because I have credit cards too I have used while getting disability to get me through. I should be home on oxygen but work a full time job. I’m not sure how much longer I can do it.

Medicare just cut benefits across the board for disabled elders. But we have a new regime incoming that cares about “Golden Age” folks. In fact, we are looking at a true GOLDEN AGE with our Commander in Chief/President and the White Hat Alliance implementing the reforms they have worked out behind the scenes for years.

I’m so sorry to hear, it’s incredibly difficult and I really want to push for a change to at least be able to have a savings. I think it’s ridiculous that we’re bound to only 2,000 single or 3,000 for married. No room for emergencies whatsoever. I hope things do get better for you

Time will tell if he is a god President for the elderly. I hope so. Also those disabled and/or on SSI. They need to update the savings income asap. Wonder why it’s taking so long?
