Hi. I’m an individual with Cerebral Palsy. In January of last year, I got my SSDI taken away because I make too much a month at my job that I do full time. I wanted to create this topic to discuss if there was a way on the federal level to make people who have a permanent disability at birth receive SSDI benefits always instead of basing it on how much you make a month and if you reach the limit of 1,550/month they take benefits away and I think and I think other disabled individuals with Cerebral Palsy and other disabilities would agree that 1,550/month is very low to live on with monthly expenses.
Thank you so much for anyone reading this. This is my first policy topic on this site.

This is a great question, Brett. I agree that current SSI amounts are not even close to enough to live on. Even if a person on disability finds a job that can accommodate them, they cannot earn enough money to live on without being permanently kicked off disability. This causes people to give up trying at all.
I have submitted a proposal to increase the assets allowed to reflect today’s cost of living (needs to be more than $2000). Also, proposed a safety net to allow a person to work and earn income with the promise that they can get back on the disability immediately if they lose their job. I think this would be life-changing for many people. You can vote if you like it here:
