Social Security for disabled individuals

Hi. I’m an individual with Cerebral Palsy. In January of last year, I got my SSDI taken away because I make too much a month at my job that I do full time. I wanted to create this topic to discuss if there was a way on the federal level to make people who have a permanent disability at birth receive SSDI benefits always instead of basing it on how much you make a month and if you reach the limit of 1,550/month they take benefits away and I think and I think other disabled individuals with Cerebral Palsy and other disabilities would agree that 1,550/month is very low to live on with monthly expenses.
Thank you so much for anyone reading this. This is my first policy topic on this site.

This is a great question, Brett. I agree that current SSI amounts are not even close to enough to live on. Even if a person on disability finds a job that can accommodate them, they cannot earn enough money to live on without being permanently kicked off disability. This causes people to give up trying at all.

I have submitted a proposal to increase the assets allowed to reflect today’s cost of living (needs to be more than $2000). Also, proposed a safety net to allow a person to work and earn income with the promise that they can get back on the disability immediately if they lose their job. I think this would be life-changing for many people. You can vote if you like it here:

Hi Vicki. Thank you so much for your reply. Sorry I just saw this now. I will gladly look at your proposal and tell you my thoughts.

The only problem I can see with this is that it takes money out of Social Security, which already has less than is needed to pay out all that is due. We need a separate fund for disability, and the amount you get depends on how much it affects your ability to work, expenses, etc.

Social security funds have been pillaged by the criminal elite. This is not the fault of truly disabled people. Not all disabled people can work, so does that mean they get punished yet more, receive a pittance when most are struggling to a degree, the average person cannot even fathom. Let’s face it, the disabled have become society’s cast aways- throwaways. The medical system is entirely corrupt which prevents eradication of the disabilities. I wonder where are the Medbeds?? There does exist cures to many diseases, this is critically needed. What a new lease on life for the disabled to be totally cured! We need to demand this technology be released on behalf of all humanity. The federal poverty rate is approximately around $14,000 a yr for a single individual. Most disabled are at half that limit $7,000 and still are denied benefits to survive. It’s a bottomless pit no one deserves to live in. Nor should they be forced to live in a highrise postage stamp studio, unable to afford wholesome food or to afford meds that the insurance industry is denying coverage. They’re monopolizing the market playing God on who gets what which is another form of genocide.
