Immigration Policies: Legal, illegal & working visas

My post here is a mix of sharing my experience 40 years ago with legal immigration (worked very well) and my recommendations for working visas and illegal immigration.

I start with legal immigration:

  1. 40 years ago, I believe there were quotas how many immigrants the US can accept. We must return to this system based on resources available & workforce needed.
  2. legal immigrants must apply to the US Embassy in their home country, complete paperwork, health examination, in person interview & background checks.
  3. Legal immigrant must have a sponsor for financial support & legal compliances! The states or the federal government should not pay people to immigrate into the US! Further, if immigrants commit any crime, must be immediately deported & never allowed to visit the US!
  4. Legal immigrants receive a working visa within 2-4 weeks so he/she can work & support themself. Legal immigrants cannot apply for any types of financial help, except for taking English as a Second Language classes.
  5. Legal immigrants can apply for US citizenship after 5 years in the country & in full compliance with items 1-4 above!
  6. ONLY US CITIZENS ALLOWED TO VOTE After citizenship test & application completed & US passport received.
  7. Legal immigrants are added to the Census after the working permit received - a cross communication between the agencies tracking their status. Therefore, the Census data is continuously updated! The Census again updated from legal immigrants to US Citizen status when the passport granted. Therefore, at any point of time the federal government can communicate & publish the number of residents by each state for a) US citizens and b) legal immigrants.

Working Visas should be provided with a limited time for labor resources needed for manual labor or highly skilled labor. The hiring employer is the sponsor for that limited time. When the work/project ended, the working visa recalled/expired and the person must return to their home country!

The Working Visa program is not intended for Legal Immigration purposes, though, there can be an application process into legal immigration status by completing steps 1-7 above.

ILLEGAL ENTRY INTO THE COUNTRY IS NOT ALLOWED! PEOPLE SHOWS UP AT THE BORDERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER THE US! ANYONE WHO ENTERS THE COUNTRY ILLEGALLY, COULD NEVER ALLOWED TO BECOME LEGAL IMMIGRANTS & NEVER ALLOWED TO VOTE!

Agree with this process. At this moment it appears many foreign nationals are working at American companies when American graduates are capable and willing to work in these technical positions. Companies are displacing college graduates with foreign labor in attempt to reduce wages and increase profits. Believe a review of US companies is necessary to assess current work visas and current labor pool. Hire qualified Americans first.

I see a problem in the high tech industry where skill workers are not returning to their country, it’s ok when every US citizen is working but when big tech lay off Americans and keep foreign workers or when unemployment is high we should stop those visas; same for offshore work, it shouldn’t be encouraged when there’s unemployment in the US.
Corporation make tons of profit without raising salaries when you compare to cost of living, something has to give…

Only US Citizens can be counted on the census, otherwise I like most of what you have proposed. I would like to see a followup for citizenship at 5 and 10 years verifying they have supported themselves and not taken any financial support or committed any crimes. If they have not followed through with those key elements, citizenship should be revoked.

I disagree that citizenship should be revoked. If someone has applied for citizenship and it was granted after 5 years living/working in the US, they need to be able to live as any other citizen in the population. Otherwise it is just an undue stress on someone’s life to have people watching over their shoulders the rest of their lives. That’s not freedom. They need to follow the laws and guidelines everyone else lives by, of course, or they face the same penalties as other citizens. If not, you create a subset of citizens held to stricter standards than others, which is grossly unfair.
