Hearing Protection Act

Pass S.401 — 118th Congress; aka, the Hearing Protection Act. Introduced first by Idaho Senators Mike Crapo, James Risch, and John Boozman.

The bill as of now, follows as such:

This bill removes silencers from the definition of firearms for purposes of the National Firearms Act. It also treats persons acquiring or possessing a firearm silencer as meeting any registration and licensing requirements of such Act.

The Department of Justice must destroy certain records relating to the registration, transfer, or making of a silencer.

The bill also revises the definitions of firearm silencer and firearm muffler under the federal criminal code and includes such items in the 10% excise tax category.

I strongly believe that all the $200 Tax Stamp money that has been collected, be returned to every individual that has had to pay it

The notion that Suppressors make firearms more dangerous is beyond the point of exhaustion and very much so not true. Hollywood and politicians have essentially demonized these pieces of metal and made them seem like a magic trick making firearms completely silent. They don’t. Suppressors have not ever been used in a violent crime since their listing onto the NFA. Passing this Bill will help reduce hearing loss for the majority of American’s that exercise their 2A rights!

The House, Senate, and President should absolutely pass this law during their term!

If firearms were treated like any other tool, it would be illegal to sell one without a suppressor on it. Too many people get their facts from movies. Most Suppressed firearms are still well above safe hearing levels, but can save permanently damaging your ears. Using Suppressors is courteous, and should be recommended when ever possible. Most other countries do not regulate suppressors at all.
