Government waste

The amount of govt waste. Agencies purchase items for programs or for federal contracts. They cannot reuse excess on future projects. Others purchase in bulk and never use. All gets sold to the public on auction. Highest bidder wins. GSA release items to federal agencies first. Many employees are not aware of this. Then sent to the public. Sold for pennies on the dollar.
Another source of waste. Contracts for large expenditures. They must spend as much of the allocated budget. Purchasing ridiculous overpriced items. There are no rewards for coming in under budget.

This area should be filled with no nonsense areas that can save billions of dollars in government waste. Start with the color of money and budgeting. If a command has 100k budget only for money for carpet, office chairs, etc and they only spend 20k, next years budget will be reduced by 20k at least. So what do they do? They order 100k worth whether they need it or not. Now multiply that throughout just the DoD. I was an on-base contractor for over 15 years and retired lat year with 34 years as a contractor. The waste is sickening. We had printers we didn’t need or want and no paper for the ones we had. We DRMO’d brand new high dollar equipment that we never needed to begin with. I got a million stories of waste.

DOD gets rid of it and I pick up what they will let me. I’m 30 yrs with DOI. And with the contracts. Have a 100k on a building contract, buy big fancy sinks for the bathroom , instead of normal. 5x the price.
