Full coverage for expenses related to premature births and genetic abnormalities

Health insurance companies made an estimated 45 billion dollars in 2023. And yet, families and mothers who are given the hard decision to give birth prematurely or make the decision to give birth to a child likely to be born with genetic abnormalities are often stuck with crippling medical bills, even with insurance in place.

I propose a mandate that insurance companies cover the majority of not all costs above and beyond the normal costs of a full term birth to a healthy child. This also includes care for the child after they leave the hospital should there be any serious long term effects that require further treatment. No family should have to live in life long debt for conditions often out of their control.

This support makes the decision for parents easier knowing they will have the support structures in place to and provide the same quality of life and opportunity to their child as any other family would.
