My small town has been trying to form something like this, but with county laws and red tape, it’s been a very uphill battle. This would be a great program for rural areas!

People can buy direct from local farms without interference from the government right now. New Jersey farmers have been doing this for more than half a century via roadside stands along the roads leading to the Jersey shore points. People from many states make a point of stopping to load up on their excellent produce on their way to and from shore points.

Local farms are limited due to size, climate and growing environments; and doubtful they could totally meet community and school needs. There are so few farms anymore, it’s pathetic.

Limitation to only your community doesn’t foster competition and better prices, it fosters monopolies. Co-ops are a good idea but again, they are few and far between.

Agreed except for dieticians. Don’t need them. Back in the day, these individuals didn’t even exist. Why? Because local food didn’t have chemicals on/in their food. Food pyramid needs to be flipped back to it’s correct (original) position and we’re good.

Excellent. In NY many agricultural districts have working farms in local governments with No Right To Farm policy. Land developers attack our properties by using these city resources to keep shutting us down. This wastes city resources and closes our ability to feed the community due to constant litigation. Let’s make a law for ALL WORKING FARMS in Certified Ag Districts have a RTF policy! Stop NYS from losing small organic producers. This should be a nationwide policy! Let small farms dissolve away from the cities and be free standing entities within the town.
