END PROPERTY TAXES!!! No-one should have to pay off their home and then keep paying for it in the form of property taxes.
I love this idea! This has to be done. Currently, because of property taxes, we NEVER truly own our house. If I am 80 and on a fixed income, and I can’t pay for property tax my house can be taken away from me making me homeless even if my house is completely paid off. This is terrible and makes us constant slaves to the system.

This shouldn’t be resolved at a national level because property taxes are usually a local government thing. Perhaps if we can trim the fat at the national level we’ll start voting for less junk in the budgets of our local governments.

You don’t truly own the property if you’re paying taxes on it. Property tax makes no sense since you keep paying on it forever. If I buy a gallon of gas I pay taxes on the gallon once. It’s like taxes every gallon of gas you ever bought every day forever .

Agreed, or, at the very least, make the property tax a one time payment at the point of sale. Once you pay your home in full, it should be yours, period.

Ok, I get the sentiment, but you are going to be paying taxes one way or the other. Some of the functions of government are legitimate and they will cost you.

100% agree, however, ending property tax is a state level right (per the Constitution). Abolishing property tax would only create higher CDD fees (which can not be controlled at the home owner or HOA level). You must ping your state for change on this issue without them taxing you the same without naming it something different. Definitely needs legislation to minimize these counter effects otherwise they will find a different way to tax us for the same thing.

Agreed. I’d rather pay income tax and only owe a portion of my income if I fall behind, than pay a property tax and somehow owe ALL of the property. I say this with full knowledge that I’d be paying more tax overall if this were implemented.

I think what Ikrani wants here are reasonable limits to property seizure for unpaid taxes. Nobody should lose their house for several grand owed, to anybody. The label on the tax (income or property) isn’t terribly important.

It would improve the lives of so many people if property taxes ended at age 65. That would be a start. Coupled with no tax on social security, it would be a dream come true for seniors. Without a doubt, it would change our lives dramatically. I have traveled the world extensively and despite our chaos, it is still the greatest country but we need a transparent government. Thanks for this site. I feel like I matter at long last.
