Congress and senate have ridiculously high salaries as is and are always trying to give themselves raises while people in their districts/cities/states are struggling to make ends meet. If government officials want to earn more, they need to enact policies that positively benefit the cost of living and wages of the people they represent. Also investigations of any politician who’s net worth jumps millions while their salaries are only a hundred thousand. Any requests for raises should be accompanied with valid reasoning and voted on by we the people, not congress/senate.
