Choose where your taxes go

We believe that citizens should have a say in how their tax dollars are allocated, allowing them to prioritize issues that matter most to them and their communities.

Our Proposed Policy:
Each year, taxpayers would be given the opportunity to designate a percentage of their tax contributions to specific government-funded sectors. This annual choice would empower citizens to align funding with their values, creating a truly participatory government that listens and adapts to public priorities.

Here’s how it would work:

• Social Services: Targeted support for programs addressing poverty, childcare, disability assistance, and other essential services for vulnerable populations.

• Healthcare: Investment in public health, medical research, hospitals, and essential care services to ensure community health.

• Environmental Protection: Funding for initiatives on climate change, pollution control, conservation, and sustainable practices.

• Education: Allocation to public schooling, teacher pay, higher education, and improved access to learning resources for all.

• Infrastructure: Funds for maintaining and upgrading essential networks like roads, bridges, energy, and public transport.

• Geriatric Care: Supporting programs for an aging population, including elder care, in-home support, and age-friendly services.

• Public Safety: Ensuring well-equipped fire departments, police, disaster response, and community safety initiatives.

• National Defense: Allocation for military defense, veterans’ services, and national security.

• Economic Development: Programs that foster job creation, small business support, and long-term economic resilience.

• Science and Technology: Investments in innovation, scientific research, and technology that fuel national progress.

Why This Matters:
In a world where public trust in government often feels distant, this policy would bring citizens closer to the decision-making process, giving them a real voice in shaping public spending. Every taxpayer’s allocation would be compiled to create a transparent, democratic overview of national priorities, offering insights into what communities value most.

The Benefits:
• Increased Accountability: When citizens influence the funding of specific sectors, it encourages government transparency and responsibility.

• Enhanced Civic Engagement: By directly involving taxpayers in budget decisions, we create a more informed, engaged citizenry.

• A Stronger Democracy: Empowering people to decide how tax dollars are spent reflects democratic values and respects citizens as stakeholders in the nation’s future.

Imagine a future where public spending reflects the diverse values of our communities. We’re calling for a policy that empowers you to help build a government that serves the people in a meaningful way. Let’s start the conversation on how we can make this a reality!

Another way to do this would be for any line item in the budget to be eligible for tax-creditable donations.

That way, when congress passes an omnibus spending bill that approves a pittance for border control, one could donate their entire tax burden to border protection, then pay no “taxes”.

I’d rather choose the option that the citizens can exclude one or two items, where his/her tax money does NOT go.

so the most unpopular domains lose funding and need to reconsider, restructure, and convince citizens of their value.

I definitely want my tax dollars to go where I want to. I like that idea. But it would have to be among a pre selected group of course, not just whatever. For example: SCHOOL CHOICE! If I pay taxes but want my child to go to a private school, I should move my dollars there. Private school function very well with a very lean budget while public school have a big budget and are constantly struggling.
