When packages are “lost,” consumers should have a third, neutral party to go to as far as investigations. There are way to many packages “lost” at USPS. Are they that incompetent? I don’t think so. I think theft is involved. But who does the investigations? The very ones participating in the theft. There needs to be a third party company that can’t be bought. There needs to be checks and balances (so to speak) in the USPS.
There is a sufficient controlling and investigating and prosecuting structure within and around USPS (which they claim are already separate organizations) it just needs to be as accessible to USPS customers as say a local police station AND be held responsible for not getting involved by all means necessary (as they do now - good luck even getting in touch with those cannot-reach people!)
Hopefully, that is where Elon’s and Vivek’s DOGE steps in - we need to cut off as many of the freeloaders to make those left to actually do what they are paid to do.
It is once again not about creating yet another controlling and overseeing organization - but about cutting out ALL the freeloaders occupying over-bloated governmental agencies who do not do ANY actual work but hide behind “governmental secrecy walls”.
What percentage of those “lost” claims go to the vast structure you just listed? If they do get to that stage, what percentage are investigated by the very person who is involved? That is why there needs to be an independent structure.
You probably took it that I disagree with you on ineffectiveness of USPS - I completely agree; I simply do not see how engaging yet another controlling (contractor!) agency would help.
In my opinion - maybe due to all past-few-years DEI hires and what’s not, bringing in LOTS of people without values USPS was standing for once, or without any general regard and concern for anything or anyone but themselves - the whole USPS needs to be, one way or another, completely cleaned out and dismantled; and re-created anew, being allowed THAT much, it needs to be held to higher standards, which shall be strictly enforced AND - agree with you there - checked on TRANSPARENTLY…
and all that starts with people, customers, to be able to get through to those in charge of controlling and checking on operators, which currently is not even nearly, but plain and simple IMPOSSIBLE for an everyday American,
It is not adding more. If there is an independent there is no need for the mass structure you described. What takes 5 departments in the government can take ONE department with an independent. Thus reducing size. Getting too small leads to less transparency because efficiency suffers.
honestly, had a good laugh at your “getting too small”…. tell it to all 12 people SLOWLY walking in the back-area of any Postal Office while 1-2 of them are “serving” a line of 15-20 people in the front…
And they all KNOW: you cannot fire them, you cannot take away their already-earned pension, etc. - they are on the government position and their future is “secured for the life” - “just shut up, peasant, and wait in the line and HOPE that we do not “lose” your mailing…”
