Pitbull-type dogs have killed 90 Americans since January 2023, significantly more than any other type of dog. There have been 53 fatalities in America in 2024 because of dogs, and only 11 are because of a non Pitbull-type dog.
They are terrorizing homes and neighborhoods across the country, because of taxpayer funds and propaganda. They are a burden on the healthcare system and “animal care” industry.
Regarding the CDC, it’s important to note that their stance on BSL seems to contradict their mission to protect public health and safety. While they acknowledge the severity of dog attacks, their opposition to BSL raises questions about the influence of lobbying and special interest groups. This discrepancy should be addressed and openly discussed.
That’s almost like saying to ban certain types of guns because they’re used more often by criminals than others. Dogs are a product of their environment. I know families that own some of the most docile pitbull’s that I would trust before other breeds. Instead of targeting a specific breed, target the owners who encourage the bad behavior.
Absolutely not. This is a despicable way to pretend responsibility doesn’t fall on the owner. Millions of pitbulls in the country and you want to get rid of them? That’s not how that works
Guns are not sentient beings like dogs. I used to believe “it’s not the dog, it’s the owner” until I met the Bennard family and met Colby Bennard’s mother. Their two Pitbulls were extremely well cared for and loved, and even then they destroyed that family. They literally tore the children out of the mother’s arms and ripped them apart. Normal dogs don’t do that. Pitbull-type dogs do it all of the time.
This is the most dummest thing!!!
I’ve been around all those breeds my entire life. I’ve had two Rotties……most lovable pet.
I’ve also had a German Shepard growing up and he was my best friend.
My friends have pitbulls and they are the sweetest dogs
Instead of banning pit bull-type dogs, we should focus on promoting responsible ownership and breed-neutral legislation. The issue isn’t the breed, but how dogs are raised, trained, and treated. Offering solutions like stricter enforcement of leash laws, mandatory obedience training for dogs showing aggressive behavior, and community outreach on proper pet care can make a meaningful impact. By addressing the root causes of aggression through owner education and accountability, we can reduce incidents without unfairly targeting specific breeds.
In a free country, one ought to be able to own whatever property one wants to, until that property infringes on the rights of another.
Americans ought to be allowed to own whatever…machine guns, explosives, chimpanzees, lions, pitbull dogs…but if those things harm another person, the legal impact to the owner should be very swift and terribly severe.
An all out ban isn’t the answer. What about cattle guarding dogs or dogs who are used for protection? Legislation needs to focus on ensuring a dog has proper training and enrichment so they don’t end up with an irresponsible owner. Even if a trait is bred in, there are ways to handle it and the dog can still do their job.
As someone who got mauled by a pittbull when I was 7 I’m against banning them. If you want to do something make folks who own them more liable for the actions of their pets.
Banning a certain breed of dog is like banning a certain gun or cigarettes that have resulted in a lot of deaths. You should instead be for creating harsher penalties against the owners who neglect to be in control of their dogs (no secure yard, no leash, etc.) Also if you look further in the research of pit bull related deaths, many are due to owners who have bought and used them as fighting dogs, outdoor protection dogs, etc. There’s a reason you see many pit bulls in shelters with scars. Also many owners of pit bulls have been drug dealers and gang members further causing aggressive dogs. A policy I posted is to create stricter animal abuse and neglect laws with financial penalties as well and creating a formal application process and regulations for breeding to reduce the amount of backyard breeders. Banning a dog breed because you think it may be dangerous is unAmerican and we should have the right to own whatever dog we want as long as we protect these dogs as well.
I agree 1,000%! I’ve had a more vicious terrier than any of my pitbulls around my and others children. This is the most ridiculous claim to take away our right to choose or allow a fur baby to choose their family.
Rather than a blanket ban on specific breeds, which is tantamount to an “assault rifle ban” - a ridiculous idea, how about mandating a dog ownership class for prospective dog owners? Let people become better trained to handle dogs and be educated on what is entailed during the course of dog ownership.
It is generally a good idea as well to not have large animals around small children to help prevent catastrophes.
