security contractor’s volunteer to protect our diplomats abroad in some of the most dangerous places in the world. When we get hurt, the Insurance companies that are funded by the Federal govt have no accountability when it comes to abiding by the laws in place. There is a lack of transparency with the injured contractor, they use the court sustem to delay/deny care, or payments. The injured party is essentially held hostage, cant work, cant get care, and is at the mercy of a billion dollar company. It takes years to get a hearing or to get a ruling.
I propose we update the Defense base Act to better protect those who protect our diplomats. These billion dollar insurance agencies need to be held accountable. Their need to be more transparency, there need to be punitive actions taken for not following the laws and the injured parties shouldnt have to suffer more after suffering life altering injuries or made to feel as if we are criminals for fighting for the care we deserve and were promised. I am one of those injured contractors and i have other friends/brother/collegues who are in the exact same situation with no other recourse. We have contacted state reps, we have used lawyers and we are told there is nothing that can be done. To add insult to injury, most of us are veterans or former law enforcement and already have to deal with the VA and it host of problems.
