I believe that lobbying is a severely abused tactic that not only gives power to corporations, but takes away the voice of the people. In my opinion, and I believe this opinion is shared by many Americans, democracy has dwindled down because of lobbying. More and more policies are rejected or accepted, even if the people are entirely against it, because of lobbying.
I have no idea how lobbying has remained a tactic for this long, when I believe it is everything our Founding Fathers stood against when they wrote the constitution. It’s like we’re giving power back to the same tea companies they threw in the water because of overtaxation. Don’t even get me started on my stance with how the IRS isn’t constitutional either.
Lobbying, and all of the other tactics used by the elite to steal power, ensures that the voice of the majority is silenced, that the voice of the lower and middle class is silenced, and ensures that corrupt individuals and unrepresentative policies continue to wreak havoc on our nation. I believe lobbying contributes as a huge factor in our inadequate healthcare system and to the fact the US ranks lowest in health care out of all first world countries.
Lobbying directly opposes the citizens’ rights to having a voice as a person versus a corporation or versus a huge load of cash donated as a legal bribe. The voice of the citizens should be louder than any sum of cash, and it has been the opposite way for a very long time. It is time for the people of our nation to feel like their voice is heard through democracy once again.
