The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has outgrown its intended purpose as a law enforcement agency tasked with investigating federal crimes and ensuring national security. Over time, the FBI has been criticized for overreach, politicization, and infringements on constitutional rights, which undermine public trust and the principles of a free society. I think it’s time we abolish the FBI and use that money in areas that are important to Americans. One example is we could use that money to help veterans or use it to strengthen the border. Anything would be better than what we use it for now.
I think we need an FBI for criminal cases- doesn’t need to be abolished but definitely needs attention and possibly restructuring. We need law enforcement and FBI.
PLUS, the States have their own bureaus of investigation, so why not just have them boost collaboration?
We need to restructure the FBI and give clear laws as to what their responsibility is and their limits are. Doing away completely with the FBI would be like defunding the police. A very bad idea. We NEED the federal law enforcement agency just like we need local police. We NEED reform and accountability in that agency just like we need reform and accountability in community policing. Unfortunately, there are too many who would take advantage of the Vaccuum in law enforcement doing away with the FBI completely would create.
You make some valid points about the need for law enforcement and the potential problems that could arise from creating a vacuum. I want to clarify that I’m not in favor of defunding the police. I have a great deal of respect for the role they play in our communities. My concerns are specifically about the FBI and whether its current structure and practices align with its intended purpose. Reforming or restructuring the FBI could address some of those issues without eliminating necessary law enforcement functions. I think there’s room for improvement while ensuring there’s no negative impact on public safety or accountability.
Maybe maintain them as forensics only, not investigative. The investigative functions could be taken over by another agency.
