FBI Reform with Sheriff Regional Coop

The FBI is beholden not to the people but to the federal government and the political party in power. It is an organization that cannot be held to account. They do provide a service to the nation but it is time to rethink how that service can best be utilized for the people’s benefit.

I propose the elimination of the FBI in whole but the 11 billion dollar budget should be used to supplement and expand the 3081 Sheriff offices through out America. This expansion should be used to bring on more deputies and detectives to fill in the void left by the now vacated FBI.

I propose the Federal Government set up regional oversight offices in all 50 states that allow for the ability to coordinate across multiple Sheriff offices for expanded and large investigations. The larger the investigation, the larger the expansion of the regional cooperation. The oversight office would not have authority over the Sheriffs but would act as a joint partner to spear head and direct the cooperative resources for multi-sheriff operations.

The oversight offices would report directly to the Department of Justice in order to keep them abreast of ongoing investigations and in order to provide communications and cooperation with the local Sheriffs.

Such a proposal brings policing back to a local level with local accountability.

An example setup that is in the spirit of this proposal can be found in the Wenatchee Valley in Washington State. There is a single dispatching agency called Rivercom that coordinates Chelan County Sheriff, Douglas County Sheriff, Wenatchee PD, East Wenatchee PD, and Washington State Patrol. When resources need to be pooled, they can call on multiple agencies.
