Unbiased Election Debate Process

Mainstream media has greatly influenced Presidential and Vice-Presidential debates. As we recently witnessed, moderators provide unsolicited input under the guise of “fact checking” in order to discredit one candidate over the other.

To combat the bias of mainstream media, I propose that we alter Presidential debates the following ways:

  1. Moderators for every debate should NOT be Journalists. Instead for each debate, there should be two moderators comprised of one Republican Senator and one Democrat Senator. Each Senator will ask questions of the Candidate from the opposite political party.
  2. Questions will not be provided in advance to either candidate.
  3. When one candidate is speaking, the microphones of the other candidate and moderators will be turned off.
  4. Coverage of the debate will be open to all news networks, not just one exclusive network.
  5. Three debates will be scheduled (2 Presidential and 1 Vice Presidential) and attendance is mandatory.
