Transparency in our government

There should never be permitted a gathering of our Government officials in secret, including votes. ALL votes should be mandatory, have visibility (as in televised at least), and votes must be recorded and who voted what way announced. Any indictment and trial of a government official must be read out and have the same visibility. All financial transactions need to be filed and kept (those of significance such as “gifts”, stock transactions, tax returns, etc.), more than one violation of this means that individual is investigated as is the transaction, as a civil servant, a guilty verdict stemming from that transaction will receive a minimum of 2X the maximum penalty. They’re here to serve us, not F us.

I support the notion that any decisions made by our representatives should be public record so that we may observe how they are representing us. I’d like to distinguish the discussions from the decision point (vote) as if all discussions were televised there would be incentive for those sessions to be misused for campaigning, grand standing, or creating favorable soundbites at the expense of finding compromise or consensus. At least part of the discussion must be allowed to be held in private to allow space for braver sharing of unfiltered ideas which may include explorations into unfashionable territory of thought, or embarrasing mistakes of logic or language. I want my officials to be more focused on what will work best than about how they appear on camera.
