Some individuals pause their lives and take a year off to volunteer with international aid organizations. The amount of volunteer hours they contribute - with 1k hour minimums could be used as a tax break. This would equate to a six month full-time calendar year commitment. Current jobs can be held and guaranteed by law for up to a year and improve quality of life and alleviate some financial burdens in the process.
