There is no such thing as a “life” sentence. The government does not cause one to live by judicial action. It is a euphemism for a sentence to die while incarcerated at an unknown, later point in time. Forced to live a hopeless existence of tedium in the midterm.
If a subject can not be released back in to society, if you are sentencing someone to death in your incarceration system, have the mercy to do so without the torture of a despondent life spent wasting away.
