Reform Prison Sentencing

We are all tired of hearing stories about how a convicted rapist will get 6 years in prison while a drug dealer will be served with 25 years to life.

Or remember the story of the young truck driver named Rogel Aguilera Mederos who was sober when caused an accidental deadly pile up in Colorado that killed 4 people and initially received a life sentence before a nationwide trucker protest forced them to reduce his sentence to 10 years? The judge expressed his disagreement on having to give the driver life in prison as he cried in court at the initial sentencing, only to change it later when it hurt the Colorado economy. This means the judge could’ve given him a lighter sentence in the first place!

I understand that every state should be allowed to form their own criminal justice system but there should be some form of federal oversight for reasonable sentencing! Otherwise who is to stop extremist states from sentencing their residents to life in prison for stealing a candy bar?

Also we the people should have a say in maximum and minimum prison sentencing terms for all major crimes! When did the government start deciding a rapist shouldn’t do life in prison? Maybe we have some rapists in government. It is the worst crime you can commit towards a woman.
