Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) Reform

You need to get a lawyer. This is why applicants are processed faster.

I get SSDI and SSI at the lowest amount. I receive 7/8 of my funds from SSI. Why isn’t SSDI paying more than SSI? I’m disabled so I’m not understanding.

I’m also getting a yearly cost of living raise of $4. Then they take away $20 of my food stamps benefits !!?

I’m embarrassed to even admit that I’m on disability and have to talk about it. I’m grateful that I’m receiving what I do, but these career govt workers go in as middle class and end up being millionaires by laundering tax incomes??

At $900 a month I’m really struggling. I absolutely hate that I have to get a handout but there’s no other solution. I was in denial for years and refused to believe I had no other recourse. I was delusional that I could actually be a normal person and live a normal life.

It is a non livable amount already, should not be taxed or penalized just because a spouse works.

I don’t think that there should be any limits on working while collecting. Its just not enough to live on. You still have to work and as long as you are still having SSI taken out why is there a limit on how much you can earn in a year? Any thoughts?

I was disabled from an accident. After fighting for disability for a year, I was declared disabled. I was on Medicaid because of my situation. I was having major surgeries and on a lot of pain medicine, 120mg of morphine. Then having been declared disabled, I was removed from Medicaid and left to detox my self. I was given a patch of something from my doctor, so I wouldn’t have a heart attack. I D.T.ed for several weeks while still bed ridden. I hope they pass this so no one has to suffer like I did again. They must make Medicare available when someone is disabled. It’s cruel to not do so. The waiting period is insane.

You should contact your Congressman immediately about the extreme delay in obtaining a decision on your reconsideration claim. Your Congressman will then contact the Director at the Disability Determination Services office to expedite the decision on your claim. There is no reason for a reconsideration to take that long. It seems your claim may have slipped through the cracks.

Agree with the above and states denial rates are way too high even when a person has records showing they cannot stay gainfully employed. It need overhauling and taken out of state’s hands on deciding. Force MDs to do their jobs when they know a person isn’t gainfully employed and they tell you “I know you cannot work but I don’t fill out social security forms/questionnaires”. My wife worked in daycare since she was 15, now 47, picking up those kids and working on concrete all her life has damaged her spine.

Social security is a joke and needs overhauling. Its COLA is pathetic and fraudulent. Groceries and gas controls prices and when they jump 100% COLA also should equal the same. Congress gives themselves raises but keeps us poor…I really hate the UNITED STATES government…

There are people being forced to detox suddenly all the time bexause they are dripped by doctors who the law states can’t treat their patients anymore. Your situation is not going to move the needle when people are routinely left in the same medication situation… there are even a growing number of hospitals who will not provide more than tylenol after surgery. If you need more information do a search for “war on pain patients” or “war on pain” should also suffice.

I agree this whole system needs updating. The list of covered disabilities is way too compartmentalized. I have been on SSDI for 13 years due to multiple head injuries and back surgeries for which I have acquired a neurological disorder. I suffer daily yet still have to go through a review for benefits every 2 years because They have never categorized me as permanent. It also needs to not penalize people for receiving insurance settlements.

So True !! I had a Major surgery and after 2 weeks all the Doctor’s would give me for Extreme Pain was Tylenol!!! I thought I was going to die. I couldn’t believe how Inhumane the system has become! I had no idea that after surgery I would be in such Misery and Pain!! Something really needs to be done about this ! It was Torture!!!

I can tell you the key to help your pain. Find a pain management that prescribe BUPRENORPHINE. Any MD who can prescribe pain killers can now prescribe Buprenorphine since Congress passed the law in 2021.

It is in fact the pain medication BIG PHARMA has hidden from Americans. It is in fact used daily in EUROPE. Its was created in 1960s.

Why is it different? You DO NOT get a high, it doesn’t have addictive properties and you cannot overdose on it. So you can take 40 pills and you won’t die! How? Because with Buprenorphine the higher dose you take the CEILING EFFECT for RESPIRATORY DEPRESSION doesn’t rise that much at all. Once your brain gets 32 mgs of it then its flooded and anything highers doesn’t work.

It works on the same receptors as other pain killers but does not work on the receptors or part of the brain where other pain killers gets you high. With the other pain killers you have a ROLLER COASTER EFFECT meaning you go up and down and that is how your days are. With BUPRENORPHINE you don’t have that, you are normal. You can go 24-36 hours without any withdraws. I want to say something about “withdraws”. People think you only withdraw from pain killers if your addicted. WRONG. People withdraw from everything medication PRESCRIBED if you abruptly stop taking it. If a diabetic stops taking their insulin they will end up in diabetic shock because its as withdraw effect! If you take any medication for a long time and stop taking it you will end up having withdraws.

Anyway I use to be prescribed those Pain Killers like oxycodone and Morphine ER because of sever chronic pain I live in daily from C1 down to S1 with upper and lower radiculopathy. It took the VA 13 years to approve surgery on my neck and that was only after a NEUROSURGEON in Florida stated I needed surgery IMMEDIATELY. So March 2023 I had 2 level ACDF. After I had surgery I still have headaches so no pain killer would help so I came across Buprenorphine on. Youtube, I studied in for a whole month. I asked my Pain MD about it and he said yes they prescribe it. I only take 2 MGs 4x daily and haven’t need an adjustment since July 2023 whenever I began taking it. Bupprenorphine is 30x stronger than morphine in helping with chronic pain. Again no addictive properties and you cannot overdose. Why aren’t MDs in American being forced to push this medication? Because I only pay $2 for a 120 pills each month. Its CHEAP! I talked with others about it now they take it and they love it…Hope this helps others who live with CHRONIC PAIN, its not fun. I wish I could go back to work but I know I can’t even my MDs said NO you cannot.

They also need to change that 5 year Date of Last Insured rule, abolish it completely or allow people who worked 25+ years an automatic life of insurance if they stop working at 25+ years. Understand? If not I will explain, if you quit working in 2020 you have 5 years to file for SSDI which means your Date of last insured is December 31, 2025. You had to become disabled within that 5 years or before to even file for SSDI. Well if a person works 25+ years and say they quit working in 2020 and then 6 years later they end up with a disabling injury they can never go back to work. Well they are OUT OF LUCK because they cannot file for SSDI because their date of last insurance was December 31, 2025! yes its a SS REGULATION based on a LAW Congress wrote. Its SAD and pure unethical IMHO mainly when a person worked 25+years. This is a true story, a women worked 25 years, she stopped working to stay home to help her kids. 10 years later she ends up with cancer calls Social Security only to be told “You cannot file your date of last insurance was 5 years ago”…She paid FICA taxes for 25 years and it means ZILCH for disability after you stop working! SAD!

BTW there is NO TAX on SSDI whatsoever. I know this because I have SSDI. I’ve been retired since April 2012 and was approved for SSDI in 2014 2 weeks after the judge seen me. There isn’t any taxes on SSDI.
