Continuing the discussion from Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) Reform:
I 100% agree. The waiting period is too long, people don’t have enough funds and or insurance coverage to get through the waiting period.

I would love to discuss what happened throughout my SSI journey. I fell 3 years ago. Still waiting for my SSI to go through. I have an attorney that only takes 5% of the cases that comes through. I am in that. I had over 24ish surgeries and procedures. I know more about how broke our system has been since Obamacare. My first year was 55k just in Cobra Insurance Out of Pockets etc. Not including fuel help RX’s etc. 2nd year 17k 3rd year $9,100. I have been in chronic pain. I know here in TX you immediately get denied then you appeal then you go to court. Our attorneys know this. If a person is havinv a bad day then they can decide you need to go longer. Their needs to be guidelines that help us get help faster and across the board. One friend said she heard some will refuse you if you don’t have the right name. I also recommend that our SSI should only be used by the government for it’s intended purposes. Let’s build the trust back. They didnt even have enough for FEMA victims but we were able to give it to other countries and non citizens?
If someone qualifies for SSDI, Medicare insurance should be immediately available, there should be no waiting period.
My brother has stage 4 metastatic lung cancer and was granted SSDI but had to wait 2 years to receive Medicare. By what theory does that make any sense? So, he had to apply for Medicaid. The government looks for any way to screw hard working citizens out of necessary benefits they worked for. Thankfully, he’s going to make it to that 2-year mark. In 2009 when I got SSDI, I only had to wait 3 months to receive Medicare. It’s truly disgusting how the government treats the disabled.
It took me three years before I finally applied. I kept hoping I’d get myself well enough to work again. I had a very bad fall and was placed in a medically induced coma. Problems since and waiting to hear back. It’s been only a month or so we’re helping adult sick son and can use this. Wishing it were easier.
