We used to have mental health hospitals for those that were significantly ill and unable to treat themselves in the home setting. Those things are no longer present and our mentally ill are sent out to community based programs. These programs are often overrun and overworked. We need safe housing for our chronically, mentally ill patients. When they are turned out to the street, they often become homeless and drug addicted because they have very little support.
