I am running out of votes. How do I get more?
Why have they limited the votes? There are a lot of important issues.
I agree. Please allow us to vote for more policies that we agree with.
What about allowing a limited but steady amount…like 1 addition per day, or 3 per week?
I haven’t even gotten through half of the categories yet and ran out. There are lots of things that need fixing.
i was wondering the same thing!
Please tell people before signing up for this that you only allow a limited amount of participation. I’m not sure I’m interested now…
Yes, please explain the reasoning behind the vote limit, and why there is no mention of it anywhere on the site.
People want to participate and be heard. How is that accomplished by limiting votes.
There are many ideas here I support, but in order to vote on them, I have to remove previous votes on ideas I have already supported. Why is there a vote limit? Can we get at least five votes daily? How are you going to know the actually number of people who agree to an idea?
I think Limiting votes is going to hamper the engagement of this page. And generally hurts the whole idea and community. I’ve put together some reasons I think think and some creative solutions.
Limiting votes on a “policies for the people” page can be detrimental because it:
-
Restricts democratic participation: The foundation of democracy is the ability of citizens to have a voice in the policies that govern them. Limiting votes stifles this voice, potentially leading to disenfranchisement and apathy, particularly among marginalized groups whose concerns might already be underrepresented.
-
Creates an artificial scarcity of voice: When votes are limited, it creates a sense that one’s opinion is less valuable. This can discourage thoughtful engagement and lead people to simply vote for whatever aligns with their initial biases rather than deeply considering the issues.
-
Reduces the sense of ownership: When people feel like their voice matters and can directly influence policy, they are more likely to feel a sense of ownership and responsibility towards their community and government. Limiting votes undermines this sense of ownership.
Ideas to give people more votes at a pre-determined pace:
-
Regularly replenishing votes: Provide users with a set number of votes that replenish daily, weekly, or monthly. This allows for consistent participation while preventing any single user from dominating the system.
-
Earning votes through engagement: Award bonus votes for actions that promote thoughtful participation, such as:
-
Reading policy proposals in full
-
Commenting constructively on proposals
-
Sharing proposals with others to encourage broader engagement
-
Participating in online discussions or debates about the policies
-
-
Tiered voting system: Implement a system where users start with a base number of votes. As they demonstrate consistent engagement and thoughtful participation, they gradually unlock more votes.
-
Special events with increased voting power:
Occasionally hold special events or polls where users have an increased number of votes or their votes carry more weight. This can be used to highlight particularly important issues or to encourage participation during specific periods.
- Decentralized voting mechanisms: Explore blockchain-based voting systems where users can earn or acquire voting tokens through various means, ensuring transparency and security in the voting process.
By implementing these strategies, you can create a more inclusive and engaging platform that encourages democratic participation while ensuring fairness and preventing abuse.
Just joined and used the 10 votes you provided, and now I’m out of votes. Is that it? Is it 10 votes total at one time, 10 votes per day, 10 votes per category, etc.?
I’ve looked through all of your online documentation and no where does it talk about the vote limit and how/if it replenishes.
Absolutely right. Unless you’re prepared also to limit the number of votes allotted to Representatives in Congress, the people should also have unlimited votes on this platform!
This was explained here:
In this post:
If this is a platform where we can freely express our desires for how we want to see our government run, then limiting our number of votes is limiting our ability to express our desires on a level in which we feel comfortable expressing ourselves and our views.
A lot of people are only comfortable with voting and want their vote to be counted, but that’s as far as their comfort level goes. If you limit their votes you limit their ability to express their desires. We are all tired of having our thoughts, feelings & opinions limited!
You’re also skewing the accuracy of how people feel about each policy suggested. The numbers won’t be accurate.
I think this is the worst policy for this platform if you’re wanting to encourage people to interact with this site. Let them dip their toe in the water by voting on the policies they like and as they get more comfortable with this site, they will begin to interact more freely with comments, thoughts and ideas.
I can tell you for myself that I won’t recommend this site to people if you’re going to continue to limit my votes. It’s a waste of time.
Theres a video on here that talks about votes. The more you interact in discussions the more votes you get.
Hmm. Just learned about this vote limit thing. It seems odd and a little contrary to the stated purpose of this site. For instance, my understanding is that here, we can express our new ideas by posting them or we can express our support for other ideas by voting. If government is going to look at this at all, they will look first at vote totals. More votes will always get more attention.
You could relatively easily prevent people from ballot stuffing by limiting to one vote per topic.
I also think limiting to just YES votes is less helpful than YES, NO, MAYBE.
If you search votes and go through some comments, they have a video saying why.
Limiting votes. Limiting engagement (replies) hampers participation. I’m out of votes and I’m out of replies or engagement. Why bother revisiting the site?
Thanks for the effort, but after 10 votes this site deems itself irrelevant.
After 10 years of active, deep research across so many govt topics, 10 votes cripples engagement. Again, why bother revisiting? Good luck! Bye.
There is not ANY instructions on how to use this website. People are left to figure it out for themselves!
NOT USER FRIENDLY!
I found info under my account. If you go to the little wheel, it explains everything
