National Voter ID Law

In the ongoing dialogue surrounding electoral integrity and voter confidence, a compelling case can be made for a comprehensive overhaul of our voting systems, particularly through the integration of voter ID requirements alongside a return to paper ballots fortified by blockchain technology. This dual approach not only aims to enhance the security of the voting process but also to restore public trust in the electoral outcomes. Implementing a system where each voter is issued a unique voter ID number can serve as the cornerstone of this initiative, ensuring that every individual’s right to vote is safeguarded and easily verifiable. The use of paper ballots, combined with blockchain technology, presents an innovative solution to tracking votes from the initial cast to the final tally. Each vote could be encrypted and stored on a decentralized ledger that can’t be changed or editied, allowing voters to follow their ballots through the entire process, thereby enhancing transparency and accountability. Furthermore, voters would receive a receipt confirming their participation, complete with their unique voter ID number, ensuring that they have tangible proof of their vote, which could be referenced if any discrepancies arise. This system would eliminate the reliance on potentially vulnerable voting machines and ballot scanners, which have been criticized for their susceptibility to malfunction and fraud. A streamlined voting process could take place on a single day, with the counting of votes concluded by the end of that same day, minimizing the prolonged uncertainty that often accompanies elections. To further bolster the integrity of this system, incorporating signature verification and thumbprint authentication would add additional layers of security, making it exceedingly difficult for anyone to impersonate a voter or commit fraud. This robust framework would not only ensure that every vote is counted accurately but also empower citizens with the assurance that their voices are heard and respected, ultimately leading to a more engaged and trusted electorate. By embracing these measures, we can foster a voting environment that not only meets the demands of modern technology but also aligns with the fundamental principles of transparency, security, and trust.

Agreed, I am a nurse and the patients in hospitals don’t just magically get better and go home because it’s a holiday.

Not in Illinois.

According to the Illinois motor vehicle website… in order to apply for a state ID or DL you must provide your birth certificate AND your social security #.

They can’t get a license in Ohio if they’re not a US citizen. It requires birth certificate or proof of citizenship and a social security number. So if they have an Ohio DL or state ID… they’re a citizen and thus allowed to vote if 18+.

Require that every paper ballot have printed on it a unique serial # associated with that jurisdiction and election. And make sure the serial # is covered in a scratch off coating as lottery tickets use, to protect the secrecy of the voter.

If there is a dispute, scratch off the coatings and confirm that the ballot is legitimate.

Id like to add that we get a receipt of our vote.

PA has been a PITA about my Puerto Rican birth certificate. When I was 16 it was the old format and fully in Spanish. They needed someone else to verify even though it was pretty obvious.

Currently I can’t get Real ID because PR re-issued BC’s and now include mother’s maiden name as part of the surname. It’s a common Latin American thing but I now have to go to court and get a legal name change to go back to using the only legal name I’ve ever used.

But I suspect not all states are the same. Any Voter ID bill should set a minimum requirement and also should include a footnote about PR BC’s including the mother’s maiden name and it’s ok if that’s omitted.

Too technical for many to understand, but the remove voting is not a required aspect, in my estimation. Incapacitated individuals will not count in the EC vote, but only add to the total of the popular vote. Avoids games being played with these votes.

Seems so ridiculous that we even need to propose this! It should be mandatory. I love this forum!

I cannot agree with this. Paper ballots only, and one day voting only. You must proof that you are a US citizen. Absentee ballots should only be used for military members deployed out of state or out of the country. If you work outside of the country after proof of citizenship voting can be done, but it has to be in before Nov. 5th.
Other countries do this all the time and elections aren’t rigged. Give everyone that day off. It’s our responsibility to vote.

I think we should also add that absentee ballots are only for military, diplomatic employees living outside the country, and of course citizens working outside of the country/region provided they have documentation. Election Day should be made a national holiday country wide to make it easier to get to the polls.

I feel states should give a free ID at the age of 18 just like a social security card is given free at birth. The ID should be required to vote because you must have an ID to enter a Federal building and in my opinion a voting facility is a temporary federal building during an election. You need an ID to get a job, to receive any form of govenment assistance such medicaid and housing, be vaccinated, to enter the military, to purchase controled substances such as scheduled medication tobacco fire arms etc. You are asked for an ID everywhere you go. Want to see a doctor? Want to buy a lighter and propane to grill this weekend? Some states even require an ID to buy spray paint. Need a loan? Well you need a government issued ID for all of those things so why would you not for an election.
Also agree with electronic voting that also prints a copy so that the paper ballot can be cross checked against the electronic vote should any questions of tampering arise. Mail in ballots must be allowed for military, handicapped, elderly and out of the country citizens. Early voting should be limited to this list as well. Ballot boxes banned.

Maybe it could be tied to Drivers license renewal - when DL expires, so does voter registration - renew them both in one shot!

Great idea

Take it a step further by implementing Voter ID in all states and enhance the verbiage around being required to be a U.S. Citizen to vote. Eliminate States from allowing non-citizens/illegal aliens to vote in their state and municipality elections. Include in the voter ID law that non-citizens/illegal aliens are restricted from obtaining any form of State or local government issued IDs.

I agree, this takes all concern about fair elections away. Make voter id as available as social security. It could be a subset of the DMV or the passport department. Also make Election Day a national holiday.

I would say photo ID

Getting rid of the DMV involvement will eliminate many errors. The citizenship data is actually available to the counties and cities directly from the DHS.
