Make weed federally legal for recreational and medical use, as well as release the people in jail/prison for possession charges

Making weed federally legal is a must, with more and more states making it legal. But even in those states you can still be arrested for it, what sense does this make? If the federal government would just legalize it across the board, we could stop people getting unjustly arrested or having other charges on their record. And of course, everyone knows of the health benefits of weed, good for pain, stress, anxiety etc. Maybe we could finally get people off these medications with horrible side effects if we just legalized weed across the entire United States

I believe this must be taken care of similar to Trumps action on abortion. The federal government should not allow or disallow the use. Rather than make it legal, which asserts the idea they have control over it in the first place, they should simply remove the current federal language referencing marijuana and not replace it thus leaving it directly to the states to decide. Essentially just remove the federal governments judgement on it. They can keep restrictions in place regarding federal buildings and property.

Though I deeply disagree with being on drugs at all, we don’t have the right to stand in the way of other’s rights to do what they want, especially if no one is physically hurt by their choice. I am allergic to the smoke and gag on even the smell, not that those around me reaking of it bother to notice. But still. No one is physically hurt, so they can do what they want on their own land so long as they don’t endanger others at work or on the road because of their drug habit.

The bigger problem is that we end up having to pay for the druggies: they’re on welfare because they can’t get it keep a job, they’re in jail because they’re committing crimes to support their drug habit/addiction, etc.

Yet unfortunately, addict or not, it’s still a choice. And one where those around them end up being as much a victim as the addict himself. The best help we can give these people is getting rid of the government and other suppliers of this stuff…CHINA style. We can’t stop their free will choice to use it, but we can definitely stop the supply lines.

Coming from a state where it is legal, I’m here to warn its not all roses and daisies like one may think. The work ethic of people across the board is down because so many come in high even though company policies may say its not allowed (sadly, its going to happen regardless). Driving has become far more dangerous as people are driving under the influence in huge numbers, and mistakes happen far more often leading to re-work and fixing problems people who are not of sound mind create. I understand making it legal for medical purposes, but there needs to be additional laws in place to help offset the negatives that come with it as well if this were to happen

I don’t think a broad “release all those in prison for weed posession” is refined enough. What is they possessed to sell? What if they sold to minors.
I would say yhey should have their cases reviewed for reevaluation based on circumstances of their infraction.

I agree. It should be the same as alcohol. Legal but with boundaries and restrictions like you can’t drive high, you can’t go to work high, legal age 18 or 21.

I strongly agree with this! My brother had a stroke when he was 19, 35 now but has many issues. He has developed tremors makingint imposible to live on his own. One thing that we have found helps is a combination of cbd and thc. Sometimes it works so well that the shaking stops all together and he even smiles… Whenever he is hospitalized for various reasons. He shakes uncontrollably and they refuse to let him has cbd or thc. Unable to stop his shaking to solve any other problems they drug him up, then release him with no help. If marijuana was federaly legalize maybe there could be some relief for him and many other.

Im all for a federal legalization but as a recreational smoker myself I think consumption should only be allowed in your private property or designated spaces

My wife says what about the difference in distribution charges. Like when a teen buys it for a group of friends while not participating in the sale and distribution in a real criminal sense. Would he be released or stay in prison with someone who really was “selling drugs”.

And for the ones that were selling, would they be released or how can we determine whether or not they were selling other scheduled drugs.

I believe abortion and marijuana should be treated the same way leave it completely up to the states to decide and then respect the choice and vote of the citizens in that state in enforcing the laws around it I believe the federal governments should have less say in big controversial topics and leave it up to the states to lay out a plan and let it pass or fail on its own merits by the vote of the people it would directly effect that being said it can be federally recognized a set of rules and laws around consumption of marijuana that says you must be 21 like alcohol and cigarettes you cant drive operate machinery sell to under age go to work while high amounts in which one can possess etc that but at that point it would turn into legalization at that point but i say take the hot topics off the table its been a fight for years lay it to rest and leave it up to the states to decided by vote of the citizens

I would be down with it if weed companies would admit the truth related to paranoia. We don’t want to trade big pharma for big weed.

Some people shouldn’t drink and some people shouldn’t do weed! The cost of lifelong alcoholism and schizophrenia is too costly.

Yeah, turn the entire nation into the nightmare the stoners made of Colorado.

Others are ABSOLUTELY hurt by stoooopid stoners screwing up driving, screwing up their jobs, families, lives…

When anyone is not at their best, everyone around them suffers. How would your job go if people you have to work with were stoned, if you were constantly having to clean up their messes.

Yeah, it should be a state matter. Let Colorado go to $#¡+ if that’s what they want to do, but don’t spread it like a cancer (any more than it already has) to its neighboring states.

It’ll be a lot less difficult to excise the mess if it’s contained within easily defined borders.

Yes I agree, only if your 21. The benefits I have seen first hand with a mother of multiple scrosis that marijuana help her not to use pain medicine

I agree that it should be made legal federally, but only for medicinal use, and that to get a medical card one must go to a specialized Doctor and not just one of these clinics where anyone can get a card.

I agree with you. I’ve seen the effects myself. However, the fix is a state issue not federal. If a state chooses to legalize it, then they, the voters need to deal with the ramifications.

I can respect this. Be cool if it were federally allowed but fair is fair. Some things need to be at a state level.

No, because the rules are never followed and those who do not want to live smelling weed in our yards, in our homes with windows open, in our cars riding behind users have to suffer. It should be forced to be used as the rule (in Illinois) was written - at home in a closed space without interference to others!
My local representative said the police cannot even pull over a car with smoke coming out stinking weed even though it’s a DUI!
