We need a federal holiday to ensure citizens have the day off to vote, especially in person if we get rid of mass mail-in voting. However, there’s always pushback about adding a new holiday because of the cost. So, I propose that we move President’s Day to the first Tuesday of November.
That way Federal elections are a holiday where we not only remember great presidents like Washington and Lincoln, but vote for our new President as well. It would cost employers nothing. The only caveat might be to move it to Mondays in non-election years as many people enjoy the 3 day weekend they’d otherwise be losing.
