Our government was created to be “by the people, of the people, for the people”, but in recent years, the “people” referred to in that quote are becoming ignored. It seems to the average middle and working class American that our government has become “by the corporation, of the corporation, for the corporation”. I propose one step we can take to curb this worrying trend is to outlaw federal employees, from the lowest congressional staffer to the highest office, seeking employment as lobbyists after their term is finished.
I’m not sure if a straight up and down “ban” would be constitutional, but I’m certain our brightest legal minds can find a way to divorce our democracy from its unholy marriage to big business and special interests.
