American currency represents the mission and history of America. That used to be lady liberty, phrygians, arrows, olive branch, shield, etc. For example the coins released after WW1 were the winged liberty head dime, standing liberty quarter, and the walking liberty half dollar. These designs represented America’s plan and the allies plan for the world going forward. Even more current collections like the state quarter and the national park quarter showed what mades every state unique and the beauty across this nation.
We know move to present day under the Biden admin. They are currently releasing a woman’s quarter collection which ends during the next Trump admin. The women’s collection itself isn’t a problem but how it was handled was and again represented the mission of America at the time. In the mission statement for the collection they not only praise DEI but make it a requirement for the collection. This not only is the wrong way to represent America but it left out amazing women that deserved representation. Women that really shaped America for the better, abolitionist Sojourner Truth, Lucille Ball the mother of modern TV, Annie Oakley trainer of female sharpshooters, etc. Not only were these women left off but the designs on some of the collection make the coins look like arcade tokens not currency of the most powerful and prosperous nation in the world.
The policy change I’m looking for is making coins that represent the beauty, ideals, and history of America.
We should make it a contest between the best of the best designers and sculptors with basic instructions to make it look like our currency and follow the mission statement of the shining city on the hill.
This policy is something that needs to be passed anyway when the old one expires so why not do it right. Coins are something that kids can learn from, collect and be proud of. Let’s make the things we see everyday beautiful again and take a small needed step to make the people proud of America again.
