The Federal Reserve is not even necessary, it was created along with the income tax (which led to the IRS). We have the framework to issue currency through Congress. The President can request Congress make a proposal to purchase all US Debt, on the Open Market and halt work with the Federal Reserve, and create a mechanism for the issuance of US Notes, American Currency. Issuance of Currency can be monitored by the American people keeping a close eye on what Congress is doing.

What is this mechanism? I am definitely supportive of this idea, but not at the cost of creating a new monster to replace the Fed.
