Corporations are increasingly outsourcing their intellectual work to non-US citizens. Intellectual employees (whether they are business or technology focused) are at risk of losing their positions to offshore resources, as corporations are realizing cheaper labor in this sector as well. This policy proposal would require a corporation to hire their workers, whether they be employees or contractors, in the country in which they do business. So if a corporation’s business is 100% U.S. based, then ALL of their employees or contractors would also need to be U.S. based. If 50% of their business is based in the U.S., then AT LEAST 50% of their workers need to be based in the U.S. It is not right that U.S. based businesses offshore their resources to cheaper countries, leaving Americans, who are also their customers and neighbors, with no work.
Someone smart needs to outline the definition of “where business is based”, but my initial (simple) thought is that would be where their revenue is generated. I’m sure there are more nuances that need to be considered & to prevent loopholes.
I was an American Expat in Spain at 32, I had to sign a retirement visa and show proof of funds so I wouldnt take any jobs from Spaniards. Other countries protect the jobs of their countrymen, we should as well.
This fits directly in line with our proposal, in fact its much worse. It’s no longer even US companies offshoring, it’s Chinese companies taking US market share and hiring their own Chinese companies.
Please review my proposal to understand what I mean and please vote!
I created this policy and would appreciate your feedback.
Hello. In my case, all IT jobs are going to India for my specialty IT skills. Do a search on H1B to see more details about other policies posted. I have posted comments in great detail about this subject.
There is a great opportunity here to merge all of the off shore and H1B Visa workers into a master policy. I would like to contribute to the overall effort of addressing this. My H1B posts extra how this has impacted me.
If a team is formed for this policy, please contact me so I can contribute.
Hi thanks so much for the reply! Happy to have a partner in you!
I agree that the plethora of job losses due to the global economy should be put into a broader category that could hopefully get some eyes on it, we probably need a catchy title for the broader issue.
At least the Trump administration seems pretty aware and motivated to address the job losses caused by manufacturing displacement. I think if they understood the impact of the displacement across industry verticals they’d have an appetite to do something about it too.
Please check out my proposal in the link above if you haven’t already! Please also share a link to yours and I will happily vote for it as well.
Why should we allow any non-us business to operate it should be 100% us businesses operating in the US. You’re talking about intellectual property I’m talking about the factory workers at Apple okay cuz the Apple factories they should be here if it’s sold here it should be made here. Not 50% not 10%, 100%.
